Half ton tire recommendations

I got the best price off the net/tire rack and discount tire matched them. I sizes down from 265 /70 /17 to 245 /75 17. Truck handles just fine with them. Putting my 265 P rated tires that came with the truck back on this month to save some ware on my LT Falkins.

In the last 5 years I've run cooper stt's, toyo mt's, and falken wildpeak at3w's.  Not even considering price the Falkens are my top choice out of the 3, so if you factor in value its the falkens by a mile for me.  Toyo,s are hands down the worst.

I had the toyo M/T's before I switched to A/T's the M/T's were pretty soft rubber and wore out way faster than my A/t's I've had 3 sets of A/T's now and they have held up great.

I really liked my BFG all terrain TA's when they were newer.  As they've worn I find myself spinning trying to climb hills on the logging roads.  They don't do so well on the loose gravel.
YMMV.

I'm on my second set of these (KO2s) on my 2009 Ram 1500.  Traction degrades noticeably at 50% tread wear, however I got 40,000 miles out of the first set before replacing them at 50%.  Very impressed with this tire on snow, ice, gravel and dirt in the first half of tread life.  Not the best mudder I've ever had but for a quiet tire with excellent overall traction I'm quite pleased.

I’ve had good luck with Goodyear MTR’s getting 50k+ out of them and also Toyo At Xtreme.

Moved away from Toyo ATs, they chunk out too fast on logging roads I work on. I probably do 75% highway, 25% logging roads and drive 45k per year. I've got 60k on my BFG KO2s and they're awesome. Just today blew through a snowed out road about 16-20" deep, 15% grade for a couple hundred yards. They handle well in snow, mud, ice, and wet roads. I'll stick with them for my next set again for sure.

M-55s are too heavy for typical passenger trucks and kill your mileage. Toyo MTs will be too loud and have too much tread for what you need.

Flip a coin between Nitto Ridge Grappler or Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx. BFG All Terrain is a good choice, unless you drive lots of gravel, these throw gravel pretty bad. Toyo M-55 is very durable and a good choice too, IMO it's noisier than the others listed.

Cooper Discovery AT3.  10 ply, 65k warranty, and cheaper than BFG's.  I am on my second set and have been very pleased.

I switched from AT KOs (my normal standby) to Cooper ATs in 2015 because of price. A year and 15k miles later, I had my first blowout on the road, ran over a price of angle in the dark, went right through the tread!
Went back to Discount Tire that morning and they gave me full price of the Coopers in exchange for a new set of AT KOs.

Lesson learned.

Bfg ko2 65,000 out of a set on my tundra. Just over a grand at Costco.

I put a set of the falken at3 on my hunting rig last go around instead of another set of Toyos, the were less than half the price and have been great so far!

This Cooper discoverer st Maxx is the one I ended up going with and it is also the one that was recommended to me prior to me asking the question on here but I wanted to see what everyone else’s experience was before deciding. My brother has the Nitto ridge grappler and is happy with them but I didn’t want the same tire he has. The m-55’s don’t come in my size. Probably the next one that I would consider was picked on here was the Falken wildpeak.

I have the Cooper discoverer st Maxx and have been totally impressed with them. I will be buying another set to replace them after this summer.
