an interesting fact, the last pushrod v8 ford designed was the 400, back in 1971.

Is that Because they ran with the 351C, 351W, 460 for thirty years?

Like Chevy ran the 350 for the same period

 

yeah, and all those engines were designed years earlier.

 The small block ford and smallblock chevy had about the same production lifespan but ford went to ohc designs while chevy stayed with pushrods(lt1, ls series etc).

I have much more respect for ohv designs and their simplicity these days.

This motor has paused my purchase of the new ram with a 6.4 and a 8 speed, still may go that route, but i wanna see the 7.3 specs first.

Hasn't been mentioned yet, but its also going to be mated up to a 10 speed! Gonna be a powerhouse for a work truck for sure.

Chevy is also coming out with a 6.6 V8. 3 good gas engines coming out. Everything Ive read said that 8 speed should be great behind the 6.4 hemi. I had a 2017 6.4 and traded it off for a cummins.

If it has a 10 speed tranny as mentioned that in itself will make a big difference, not to mention a lot of engineering since then for better mileage.

The 10 speed trans seems to have a love/hate relationship with owners. The way it shifts all over the place seems to throw people off.

My dad has a new F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost and that new 10 speed trany.  I really haven't driven it that much, but when I have, I found it rather annoying how it seemed to constantly be shifting.  I'm sometimes weird about things like that so I just figured it was either me or maybe it was something you have to get used to by driving it more but after reading the above, I guess it's not just a me thing and it sounds like other people finding it annoying as well.  My dad on the other hand is part of the love it crowd and is constantly telling me how awesome those new 10 speed trans are.

My wife has a new Explorer with the 3.5 Ecoboost, it's a completely different layout and only has a 6 speed trans.  I don't drive it very much but the little I have driven it, I like that setup better.

I'm sure the 10 speed is probably the better setup, but it would certainly take some getting used to, at least it would for me.

It’s a weird thing for sure. It does do the adaptive learned shifting so if you just jumped in it and test drive it, it will probably feel more weird because it’s “learned” your dads driving habits.
