Drew my first spring bear tag for Douglas GMU and been doing some research but having troubles finding much of anything. Never hunted this unit so any information anyone is willing to give would be greatly appreciated.

Gone to two units for spring bear green. Find a outh facing, quiet slope that is quiet (away from rds) and sit. Of there is lush green grass, a bear will visit.

Never mind the jealousy posts bud. I’m from Kelso and drove 400 miles to the Douglas unit a few years back with a buddy (neither of us had been there) and he killed a bear the first evening we were there. Find the public ground with meadows or clearcuts or creek bottoms, poke around those areas and you will see bears. Plan your trip in the middle of May if you can. Good luck

Congrats on your tag, if you can only go one trip, wait till late May. Be prepared to glass hillsides away from roads like has been said, you’ll tag out. Where I go there are a lot of ticks sometimes, I use permitherin on my clothes, tent, boots and hat, it works very well at keeping those buggers off.

Over the years, I've drawn 4 - 5 spring bear tags. The last 2 have been SE and NE tags. I had not hunted most spring bear units prior to drawing. I drove the 400 - 500 miles multiple times for the last two and spent a fair amount of time. Ended up buying property in the NE after spring bear season was over last year. If it was required to live in or near a spring bear unit I wouldn't be buying the apps.
Haven't hunted Douglas so I can't help with that. I'll help where I can and not gonna beat someone up for trying.
They used to give maps with specific damage areas, to concentrate hunting pressure and push bears out. At the same time baiting, hound hunting, and WDFW snare trapping was occurring in the same units spring bear tags were issued. That and access permit$ is why I don't apply for west side tags.

Hey Bales welcome to the site.
You'll actually find lots of good info on everything that has to do about hunting.
I apologize for some of the negative posts on here wish I had some info on your area you're talking about.

I'm gonna travel over 300 miles to the NE sometime in May with the intention of killing a bear. Never been there before, but spent 9 points to draw a spring bear tag. Looking forward to it. Good luck Bales..

The further you have to drive the harder you gona hunt for any game. Coming from my own experience, hunting bears in MT and i have to drive over 550 miles to destination.

I agree as well. I hope every bear tag gets filled. I plan to huntlater, but will help the next guy as much as I can.

Anymore technology allows for a lot of learning from many miles away. Amazing what you can find in someone's backyard.

It has changed a lot about hunting. Still need boots on the ground to finish it.

After a couple trips across the state

and learning a new unit I was able to make it happen, had a great time seeing new country . Spotted this one from a mile and a half out and was able to make the shot from 172 yards. What a fun animal to watch and hunt, can’t wait for the next time!
