Harvest stats
« on: March 31, 2019, 12:13:10 PM »
Without getting into the argument of giving or not giving info to help folks. I pulled last years harvest report. The numbers are interesting in how the WDFW reports.

KELLY HILL    GMU 105

464     Hunters

50      Permits

43      Reports turned in

Males  15 harvested

Females  11 harvested

Total       26 for the unit

Hunters   36 reports turned back in

Success   72.2 success rate ?

So if I based my success rates on the targeted number of bears they had for permits it is more like 52.2 percent.  :dunno:
I can say that I didn't see a single bear last year. I spend a fair amount of time there.

I'm sure someone is going to justify the number based on the hunter reports. But I would much rather see the percentages of tags given VS tags filled.   :twocents:

I think it would be better to have otc spring tags even if they had a spring quota to limit spring harvest

What is the difference between "Reports turned in" and "reports turned back in"? I would assume the difference of seven is permit holders who didnt hunt. If so then 26 of the 36 hunters were successful which is 72% (bears per permit holders who hunted.)

Would that be self reporting and policing?  Require bear to be checked in for a stamp?  I like the concept but not sure how that would be policed.  Not sure I've ever seen a warden on a spring hunt.  I've seen people say they aren't necessarily honest on harvest reports.  Not trying to thread jack.

pre Molars must be sent in for bear. Could be call in to report then week to get teeth sent in.
