Huckleberry Spring Bear
« on: April 12, 2019, 11:45:56 AM »
I went into the drawing expecting to strike out, my partner and I had two points. Well to our surprise we drew...second choice! We hunt turkey in the unit so we have a good lay for the land however, we have never seen a bear. But in all honesty we haven’t been looking either.
Headed out this weekend for a quick scouting trip and then hunting turkey opening morning. I can’t wait to get back out in the woods. Hopefully I can spot some bears and I will be posting throughout the season. Wish us luck and good luck to everyone else with tags!

I hunt turkey out in that GMU as well and have also never seen a bear. I've seen scat though over the years. Good luck!

This is more of a scouting trip with a rifle. We are headed out for a week towards the end of May and another week the beginning of June.

Plenty of bears.  The later the better. :twocents:

As of last week we had no bears on camera.   They should be coming out with the warmer weather.   My guess is mid may will be good hunting.

If anyone draws the huckleberry moose tag let me know I saw over a dozen moose. Still a decent amount of snow up high. No bear sign but I still think it’s early I’ll be back next Wednesday to fill my turkey tag then get back to scouting. The locals said it’s still earlier so take that for what it is...

as others have said and especially this year, I wouldn't expect much besides the early risers now. Early May they should start showing up

Definitely a lot of bears in that unit. I have either killed or been a part of at least 20+ bears in that unit over the years. All of those were in the fall. I hunted it in the spring for half a day with a buddy last year. Had a chance to kill one at our very first stop that day. He wound up killing one a few days later. That was middle of May. You should have a great time!

Went out turkey hunting this week. Lots of birds but they were not coming into calls and skittish. Found some fresh bear sign but didn’t spot any glassing. I will be out the week of the 9th to pound some more leather.
