Hey! I'm not a complete idiot I have parts missing. Though sometimes I wonder.

Another frustrating morning on the lake.  Lots of fish marked, lots jumping and rolling, none caught.

Anyone know what these large clouds near the bottom are?

Yeah, I think we need some sun and high pressure fronts to warm the lake up.  I'm locked and loaded, just waiting.

No idea what that is in the lake.

Its the Train
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Well, if it’s a train I dragged my downrigger ball through it several times.

Watery Grave For Old Engine Navy Divers Locate Locomotive On Lake Bed

Wed., July 19, 1995

By Associated Press

A legendary logging-train engine, rumored to have been on the bottom of Lake Stevens for decades, has been found by Navy divers using sophisticated sonar.

The elite team of U.S. Navy divers and demolition experts found the steam locomotive during a training exercise Saturday under 35 feet of water and 14 feet of silt and mud.

They couldn’t see it, but its outline showed plainly on sonar and they could feel it with probes.

“We estimated it about 25 to 30 feet long, lying on its side,” said Navy SEAL and Chief Warrant Officer Dan Nohrden, a Lake Stevens resident.

Gayle Whitsell, Lake Stevens Historical Society president, was sitting on a dock videotaping the process when Navy divers told him they’d found the engine.

“It’s the greatest thing that’s happened in Lake Stevens in the last 60 years. It came out great on sonar,” he said.

The sonar is showing water underneath, if it was a solid object on the bottom it would look totally different both in the color of the return as well as the clear water underneath.

There is also a submerged cable, but I don't think it's quite that deep and you would have certainly found it with your downrigger ball.

If I had to guess, it would be some type of small animal, schooling minnows, freshwater shrimp, something like that.  Whatever the freshwater version of a ball of herring or anchovy is.

Now that the water fountain aerator thing is gone are the cables still there?

I’ve been using Pro-cure krill, Fire corn, Gulp maggots, on small hoochies, flies, wedding rings, small spoons, etc. So far, I’ve yet to touch a Koke.

Next time out I’m going try tipping the lures with shrimp pieces, maybe bits of squid.  Anyone care to share their go-to scent for these fish?

I don't use scents much, but I have found the only pink (Power Bait) maggots even get a bite. I have had no luck with any other color at all.

I've used it all. But corn, tuna, and a sprinkle of garlic salt has worked the best for me. And yes, Berkley maggots are my 2nd choice. Gonna get warm next week, that might get them going. I'll let you know Thursday! My day off

This might help.  I may give it another try later this week as I practice my social distancing.

I was out today, still slow.  At least I can't catch anything.  The Lake has warmed to 46.5 degrees on the South end, one degree cooler on the North.  A good deal of weeds are now floating around and fouling the gear.

Weather is great, I might have gotten a sunburn.
