So what are you seeing in your neck of the woods?  I'm hearing plenty of gobbles in the mornings.  However I was a tad suprised this morning to come around the corner, just down from my house and here is 4 longbeards standing in the road with no hens.  One long beard was about 35 to 40 yards away from the other three and let out a gobble as i rounded the corner, but they were all grouped up and no ladies.  What are you seeing?  Oh this was south of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Turkeys were very active down here 3 weeks ago.

Buddy and I went out yesterday and all of the turkeys we encountered were quiet and no gobbling. Ended up cutting a Tom off. Will see what the action is like on Saturday.

On Monday at my house in Spokane they were gobbling up a storm and my daughter even talked one over with just her voice. He came with in 30 feet of her all puffed up in full display gobbling at almost any sound she made. Had 7-8 hens with him.

Machias, my teenager took one down your direction on the Wa side of the line.  No hens 4 Toms all traveling together.  He had a friend record it, when they he hit his box call the gobbled like crazy but did not come to the call.  He had to go Iwo Jima to cut the yardage

Interesting, they should be breaking up any time now.

opener was tough, second day was way different, birds talked more and were way more receptive, i left them alone for a couple days and will try tomorrow to see if i can pull one away, there were lots of hens and the boys were all ganged up together, but they loved strutting thier stuff, just didnt want to venture out alone in search of that hen

I just returned from Klickitat. Pockets of birds already were henned up while other birds were gobblin like crazy.

Opening day Toms we're all henned up. Second day I called in 8 gobblers but managed to screw every single encounter up. I watched a group of 3 sprint 350 yards right to me, but I was so shocked I forgot to raise my gun. Another gobbler walked right in between our calling set up. He was 10 feet from me but I wouldn't risk the shot because my brother was directly behind him. Several more encounters went about the same. I was speaking their language perfectly that day I guess. I drew every gobbler in that sounded off but I still couldn't get it done.

I swear I will find any possible way to sabotage tagging my first turkey.

    I'm on vacation and have hunted the last 4 days. I have seen 10 Toms, 5 Jakes and 6 hens. If I were hunting with a shotgun I could have easily filled my two tags already, however with a bow and no blind it really makes it more difficult and I enjoy the challenge. Monday I called two Toms into 44 yards with no shot opportunity, the birds were vocal from about 8am to 10:15am. Tuesday the birds were silent all day. Wednesday I herd a few gobbles and bumped into a group of Toms while walking from one area to another. Today I called in 4 Jakes and shot one with my bow at 32 yards. I hit the Jake a little low right above the legs. The Jake hit the ground hard and got up and stumbled over the edge of the draw. When I went over the edge to retrieve him he got to his feet, took a few steps and flew across the draw. I could see my arrow sticking out of the right side of him. Where he was laying I found a lot of blood and feathers. I spent the rest of the day looking for him and never found it. The birds were fired up today and gobbled hard from 9am to about 1:30pm. On the drive up today my father and I saw 6 bull Elk. One 5x5 rag horn, a 1x2, and the other 4 were starting to grow new antlers. I couldn't believe that those two bulls still had last year's antlers. That was the first time I have ever seen Elk in Reardan, WA. It was a fun last 4 days of turkey hunting and I'll be back at it Saturday.

 Yup, I had my pin set on 30 yards and after the shot I ranged it at 32.5 yards.  That old saying is very true.
