Ocean Shores surf perch
« on: April 04, 2019, 11:04:47 AM »
The kids are jacked up to do some surf perch fishing.  I have the Gulp sand worms and was just wondering if anyone had some guidance on what parts of the beach around Ocean Shores might be more productive?  We plan on hitting it and just moving around until we find them or get bored but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

They just want to catch fish, species or size unimportant.  The quality of the experience is directly correlated to the number of bites per hour.

I’ve had some luck near the jetty.

If you can, go out at low tide and find areas with contours in the beach, come back and fish those areas at high tide. Food collects there and the fish will follow.

:yeah: I was told this tip many many years ago and it has consistently produced fish.

Good tip, I have read about finding channels or holes but never thought to simply look at low tide and then come back.

If you have access to precooked razor clamnecks thats a great bait caught many there on them.

They work raw too.  And they stay on the hook forever.

As mentioned, razor clam bits work well.  Sand shrimp will also work.  Could be fun for your kids to dig those up too.

Fun times, but watch for those Rogue Waves and for Loose Gravel/Sand on Beaches, after a Storm works them over. it's a great place to get stuck this time of year (even with the 4x4's.)  :yike:

Unfortunately, it was blowing 40 steady and the surf went out for probably 200 yards, so fishing was out.  Clams were had and were as tasty as always though.
