Would a change to permanent Daylight Savings Time mess up your hunting schedule?

Just curious to hear my fellow waterfowlers' thoughts on this move toward putting WA state on permanent Daylight Savings Time:

If I'm understanding this right, this will put the start of shooting hours as late as 8:25 am in Western WA during the end of Dec - beginning of Jan. Nice to sleep in late, I guess, but boy...harder to squeeze in a quick morning shoot before work.

What do you guys think? Will this affect your duck hunting habits at all?

No change, it helps some days and hurts others.  I think daylight savings is pretty worthless, so I'm fine either way.  Where it will not be fun is making sure your work calendar somehow knows and adjusts so I don't show up for teleconferences and meetings early or late all the time.

Unless you work at a dairy or something- where are you gonna be set up with decoys, and waders, and dog, and going to be able to start hunting at 0630 or so, pick up decoys, walk/boat out, deal with dog/boat, and make it into work by 0800? 0900? Noon?

Id like it.   As a photographer, light is light.  It doesnt matter what the damn clock says.

 I don’t think it would really affect me. It would be annoying as it would basically create a whole Nother time zone. It is also kind of annoying that  is what they are spending their time on. Daylight savings time and being able to hunt in pink. Glad our lawmakers are taking care of all the really important problems

Unless you work at a dairy or something- where are you gonna be set up with decoys, and waders, and dog, and going to be able to start hunting at 0630 or so, pick up decoys, walk/boat out, deal with dog/boat, and make it into work by 0800? 0900? Noon?

I've done many a shoot and been to work by 9 am.  It helps I live one exit from hunting and have a home office though.  Dozen decoys, no dog and no messing around.

I used to hunt on the way.  Especially after some rains would fill a few spots in a field.  Out and waiting before daylight, shoot a few, take a quick cat bath and back on the road.

Mixed feelings here.

There are days where I can run out but need to be back at a certain hour because I have kids.

But there are other days where I am driving in the morning and would take the extra hour in the evening.

I think I'd rather taking the morning hour but oh well.

I'm excited about it. Day light is day light to me so having shooting light at 8:30 for the second half of the season will mean a little more sleep in the morning.

Shooting hours will stay at half hour before sunrise till sunset...this would just mean that sunrise won't be happening till about 9 am in Western Wa in December (hence an 8:30 am start to waterfowl hunting).

Used to do this kind of thing very close to my house when I had a home office.

I would be up for a later start.  As a public ground hunter who is usually launching the boat two and a half to three hours before shoot time it would be nice to sleep in.

You bet I like it. An extra hour of snooze before the daylight shoot, and an extra hour for my Sunday after church hunts that have been really good the past few years. Not to mention actually being able to do outside chores after work during fall/winter. The summer time allows me to be home by 4, and have my sled on the river by 5, with a few hours to chase summerruns without anyone else on the water. Gotta love that prime evening bite.

I'm more apt to get a chance at an afternoon shoot on a weekday than I am to get a hunt in the morning. I hate when the time changes after the first few weeks and I only hunt weekends or take a random vacation day. So I'm all for the change.

I don't think it will change the time that guys go out early to get a blind. If you're going to go out at midnight, you're going to go out at midnight.

Not sure I agree with that.  I look at it like "if I want to nail down the spot I have to get there X hours before shooting time".  Moving shooting time to an hour later would move launching time an hour later, for me at least.

Any change would be welcome. One change forever to adapt to the new schedule and then we are done with this nonsense. It is well documented that the biannual switching has health damaging results. Increases in heart attacks, etc. Changing one's sleep pattern, work time, bed time and eating time is a nightmare for most of us and takes about two weeks to adjust twice a year. Even our pets have trouble especially with feeding times that have to be modified over a week or so. Hunting times are based on the sun and not our clocks. Those animals don't wear watches. Sunrise is always sunrise on the same day of each year. It is our clocks that are messing with the natural order. This is so overdue.

I'm actually against this on a state-by-state basis. For interstate commerce, for example, having 10 or 15 states switch to permanent DST, 2 or 3 that stay on standard time year round, and the remainder switching twice a year, it will be incredibly confusing. Transportation timetables, etc. This should be at the Federal level or not at all. And, it should be standard time.

I do a lot of hunting within 20 minutes of my house and walk in. With less then a dozen deeks. And if I limit writhing an half hour that’s a pretty short hunt. I would love to sleep in more tho.
