Man I wish I lived closer to the salt.......and had a boat :chuckle:

If you can get up to Neah Bay Thursday-Saturday, I’ll take you out. Just me and my dad going and his health has gone down hill. He has pulmonary fibrosis and breathing is tough. He wants to go again so I’m taking him. Could use the extra hand launching and landing fish. 19 foot Arima. If we can get out, we always get our fish. Let me know ASAP. So far weather is looking good for next week.

We have all the gear you will need.

If Karl passes, I might be available if your just looking for anyone. Never caught a halibut before.

Tie an anvil onto your line, toss it over the side and then reel it back in.  That will give you 95% of the sensation.
Drill a hole through the center of a sheet of plywood, run your rope through it and tie to the anvil.  Drop in 500-1000' and pull it back up!
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Halibut fishing (at least in WA) really isn't a ton of fun.  It's a long run, the fish are really deep, and you only get to kill one.  We have lots of other fisheries that are more fun IMO.

One of my favorite fisheries for pure fun is flounder.  They attack your bait and put up a gnarly fight on real light tackle.  Plus, you can get 500 bites in a day.  They don't stack up very fast though, so the freezer rating of the fishery isn't good.

I just need to check the species off the list :)

I'm looking forward to this fishery. I just wish they were a bit bigger.

Halibut have a ton of meat and no pin bones.  They also are easy to get to bite if you are near them so they do have their pluses.

Every once in a while you need to shoot one which is pretty fun.

People that don’t like fish will eat them too.

Dr. Told my dad today he can’t go. My plans have changed. I’m jumping on a friends boat and going out with them. Otherwise I’d be happy to take you out.

Spring Hockey has put a stop to halibut fishing for me. Wouldn't trade it for anything, love to watch my boy play. He works hard to make the team, so I'll get him to where he needs to go. I do miss the good fishing trips this time of year!!
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

We went out of Westport last Tuesday. It was pretty choppy out there. The boat had a limit by noon. Good times.

 :yeah:

Have had people that swear they don't like fish eat Halibut chowder thinking it was chicken!

Caught a 100 pound Halibut a mile off shore in a sixteen foot fiberglass boat, and shot it, twice, to get it in the boat!  :chuckle:

Love this time of year for filling the freezer. The lady and I put around 40-50 spring chinook in the freezer each year. Used to fish halibut often when I was a kid. Always thought the bottmfishing after was a lot more fun then halibut and never thought halibut was as good eating as about any other fish.
