Opportunity for Increased Recreation

This article was recently in the Enumclaw Courier Herald. The Army Corp of Engineers is taking comments on future land use and recreation opportunities around the Howard Hanson and Mud Mountain Dams.

If you want to send emails advocating for public recreation opportunities like fishing, hunting, or other activities on these lands, you have until May 15th to do so. This is a great opportunity to push for increased access and opportunity for sportsmen.

I've only been to the Mud Mountain Dam area once, but enjoyed it. What kind of hunting or fishing access is allowed there now?

I sent an email showing support for anything which increases hunting and fishing opportunity on those lands.

I doubt any hunting or fishing would ever happen at Mud Mtn. Howard Hansen on the other hand has been rumored my entire life to have some spectacular fishing. I’ve never been in there, but always heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend about a guy who snuck in there.

Hansen is in the watershed and will never be open to the public. You can fish the Upper Green River above it but don't go past the signs on the river. They get pretty nasty if you do. They worry about someone getting to that water supply and poisoning it.

Mud Mountain is great place to have a big picnic and it can handle quite a few. There is no reservoir there unless there is a flood so I doubt they will do much for public fishing. Not sure if they want a lot of hunters crawling around in there also.

Yeah, in looking at the map, it doesn't seem like this would be a good area to send in a bunch of hunters. It's very narrow, and there's a trail that runs through most of it. You probably couldn't get more than a hundred yards away from hikers and families for most of the length of the property.
