New tire time, can't decide which ones

That's right, one single tire. I'll end up replacing all 4, but I've got 1 tire that's just been nothing but trouble. This is my 3rd set of Cooper AT 3s and they might be my last. I got about 50K and 55K miles on the last two sets (one set on a Silverado 1500 and the second on a 2500 Duramx) and this set has 22K on my Duramax and the tread is just melting off of them. Then there's the one tire that's wearing 50% faster than the rest. No matter what I've done with rotating and inflation, this one tire is just melting off the rim. 3 of the tires are at about 40% tread and this one tire is down to about 15-20%. I had the problem tire patched about a month ago after a piece of rock went right through the tread, and today while I was out in the woods (30 miles from the gate) I noticed that the same tire is starting to separate, so I threw the spare on and headed home.

I'm pretty much done with the AT 3s now and I've got the replacements narrowed down to either the Toyo M55 or the Cooper ST Maxx. Close to half the miles I put on my truck are on gravel roads and I've been told that both of those tires do extremely well under those conditions. Does anyone have any experience with both tires and have an opinion on which one's better?

I really don't want to spend $1500 on a full set of tires, but I don't like having mismatched tires or tread.

I've had really good traction from Cooper tires but they don't last very well. I'm probably going to switch tire brands too, I'm also undecided!

I've had great tread life with them in the past on my trucks and I've used them on a Durango in the past and still use them on my Cherokee, but this most recent set (one tire specifically) has been pretty bad. I asked the shop about it when I this tire patched a couple weeks ago and was just told that it's wearing down because of my driving conditions. When I asked why the other 3 weren't as bad I was told that maybe that one tire was just slipping more in the rocks and that's why it was wearing faster.

Oh.. I have and love BF Goodrich AT tires, but my 3/4 ton will eat them up in 30K miles if I run them dang near bald.  I will either accept that is all I will get out of any tire on a 3/4 ton, or look to try Faulken Wildpeak AT3s.  I put a set on my son's Wrangler and they are still going strong after 30k.  I expect to get 50 out of them at this point.  I am tough on tires with a lot of miles in the mountains.

I'm running the m55's and no matter how hard I try I can't wear them out..decent hwy noise and awesome on dirt and in snow.

I have Cooper STT Pro’s on my Tundra, and by the looks of it, I should get 50-60k out of them (currently at 31-32k). A little loud on the freeway, but good traction off road.

After comparing tires for semi-trucks for 20 years and being just as bad for my pickups, this is what I swear by:
Hankook Dyna Pro 10 ply
and
Mitchelin LTX 10 ply.

I loved the Mitchelin the best. More of a freeway tire, great wear and probably the best radial truck tire on the market.

I shopped around and paid right at $225 each.

Both are 275x70 x17

Everything I liked about the coopers but last longer and do better in winter conditions.

 The ST Maxx have been the best set I've had on a 08 2500 Ram 6.7 tire eater (140k miles). Great all around tire. It's had Toyo MT, Nitto Trail Grap, BFG All Terrain and will have the ST Maxx on again when the current ones go.

Hey Yorke, I'm sure this is something thats likely already been checked, but the one that is wearing faster isn't by chance a different load range is it? 

It's been my experience load range E or 10 ply tires tend to wear considerably longer than the others.  You pay for it in ride quality, particularly on 1/2 ton pickups, but they just seem to wear a good bit longer.

The toyo m55’s are known for wearing like iron on the heavy trucks. Might want to give them a try.

I had BFG a/t on my 3/4 ton Cummins and they didn’t last long and felt like they had poor wet weather traction. I put a set of Nitto ridge grapplers on a couple years ago and they are awesome, great wet weather traction, really good snow traction and are wearing very well. They are also a load range F so they work great for heavy towing.
