WDFW fee increase fails to pass
« on: April 29, 2019, 08:55:20 AM »
Sounds like the fee increase failed to pass this session. The Columbia River endorsement didn’t get renewed either.  Some groups were very opposed to increases without wdfw providing benefits to fisherman who were footing the bill and actually taking opportunity away. Wdfw was going to put gill nets back in everywhere, including Puget Sound.  This is a great deal. Maybe wdfw will get the memo to stop biting the hands that feed them.

Everyone should stay or get engaged in this fight. This issue will come up again next year. Start contacting your senators and reps now and don’t stop.

CCA and NSIA tried to sneak the Columbia fee in at midnight but the House said no.

I heard that the most dangerous part was the precedent that would be set.  It would open up the possibility of Animal rights Activist groups attacking our hunting and trapping easier, because of the way they were trying to make it happen.

My understanding is that they will still put gillnets back in the Columbia, as the commission voted to abandon the CR Reform plan. One of the Bills (I believe the House version), included a gillnet ban, but both the Senate and House bills died.

And now open the door to the big $#$# pile of threats of shutting down hatcheries and west side pheasants which are paying for themselves and generating revenue for the communities they serve.  Funny how they never manage to threaten letting go Admin jobs or WMS positions how much license revenue do they generate

The commission did alter the CR reforms.  What happens next remains to be seen.  Interestly, Oregon just got rid of 5 of their commissioners, including Buckmaster, and appears to be going a different direction and sticking to the CR reforms.  We'll see what happens.

I heard that Hunters Heritage testified at the legislature in support of increasing license fees, what's up with that, is that true?

I dug into this since you didn't answer.  It sounds like Brian Blake pushed for a 4 year extension of the CR endorsement cost and the senate would only compromise to a one year extension.  No deal meant the extension didn't happen.

Did Hunters Heritage testify in committee in support of the fee increase as @bearpaw heard?

Im pretty sure they removed that support since the department didnt hold up its end of the bargain. The deficit was 2x as big and the department reduced hunting opportunity.  :twocents:

The Hunters Heritage Council and Puget Sound Anglers both testified in support of the full 60 million for WADFW including the fee increase.

I see the the Columbia River endorsement as a failed experiment and hope it is not re adopted.
