Wyoming Antelope Doe Tag Question
« on: May 05, 2019, 10:49:08 AM »
CJ1962 and I have put in for Wyoming Antelope any antelope tags.  We've selected 1st and 2nd choice units.  We have a less than 50% chance on our 1st choice unit and a 100% draw on our 2nd choice.

Considering also putting in for the reduced price doe/fawn tags, selecting the same 1st and 2nd choice units we've put in for any antelope.

When applying for the doe tag there is a box that says "withdraw if full price license is not drawn".

Let's say we apply for doe tags with the same 1st and 2nd choice units as our any antelope draw.  If we end up drawing our 2nd choice any antelope unit will the doe/fawn draw automatically synch us up with that unit?  I don't want to draw my 2nd choice buck unit then end up drawing my 1st choice for doe and be in two different corners of the State.

Hopefully what I'm trying to say is making sense.  Does anyone know how this works?

Good question and I could only guess.  That guess would be that the system doesn't care which buck tag you drew, it will simply check to see if you have one or not.

It's just a guess.

If you draw ANY full price license for the same specie it will not withdraw the reduced price application.

Thanks guys. Sound like I run the risk of potentially ending up with tags in different units. The safe play is probably to apply for my 100% type 1 tag unit as the first choice in the type 6 draw.  These are the kind of problems I like solving.

Yes, go in and modify your type 1 application to only the 100% tag. Then apply for your type 6 tags in the same unit.

I would put my preferred "any antelope" hunt first and put in for your preferred doe licenses as well. If you don't draw your preferred "any antelope" but don't want to hunt does in another unit just throw them away. You don't accumulate points for them and they're pretty inexpensive.

Most years I dont even apply for "any antelope" licenses any more. I've killed enough bucks; does are just as challenging to hunt, the meat is just as good, and the licenses are cheaper. :twocents:

I would pick a hard to draw 1st choice unit for your type 1 “any antelope” license and put the 100% odds unit as your 2nd choice, that way you don’t burn points and you can actually add 1 this year unless you get lucky in the random.

Then put your 2nd choice “any antelope” unit as 1st choice for does

This is the approach I'm going to take.  Thanks for the advise everyone.

I believe that isn't right.

If you apply for the hard to draw area first and check the box on to not draw those doe tags in that area if you don't draw it, they take you out of that  doe draw. They then move on to you second choice and if you draw it you will draw the doe tags for that same area. Other wise, why would the have that box to check to get you out of the doe draw if you don't draw regardless of area?

You can call the regional office in Cheyenne for the REAL scoop. One very important bit of advice, buy your doe tags in the first draw and don't rely on the leftover draw or you may not draw a doe tag at all.  A lot less doe antelope tags now than when I started hunting them in the late 70's to early 90's.

Last year I drew any antelope and doe/fawn tags in separate units with the box checked to withdraw if any antelope license wasn’t drawn. The doe/fawn tags were in my 1st choice unit and the any antelope tag was my 2nd choice. This year I did what I told the OP to do instead. My odds at my 1st choice any antelope are low(5%) so I put my doe tags as 1st choice for my 2nd choice any antelope unit.

The sportsperson should understand that the system does not look for the hunt area in which the full price license was issued. It only looks for the existence of a full price license of the same species being issued. It is possible to draw your reduced price license and your full price license for different hunt areas. If you don’t want to draw a reduced price license in a hunt area that differs from the hunt area you are applying for your full price license, then you should list the same hunt area as your first choice on both applications, leave the other choices blank and check the withdrawal box. The result will be that, if you don’t draw your full price license, you will not participate in the reduced price license drawing. Keep in mind, the drawings are independent of each other. If you draw your full price license, you may not draw your reduced price license.
