Looking for new turkey gun
« on: May 08, 2019, 06:49:20 AM »
Was out in the woods this spring, and it dawned on me that it was about time to buy a new turkey gun. Looking for a semi-auto that is dedicated to gobblers (camo, 3 1/2 capable, shorter barrel).

What are the best options out there today?

I don't get the point of a semi auto for turkeys but there are plenty out there to choose from.

When I was 18 I bought a 870 and this year I decided to turn it into a turkey gun (still a work in progress). It's been fun since there are so many parts for the 870 that setting it up just for me has been a pretty fun trip. If you have an old one laying around it might be fun to try it yourself and you can get a pretty tricked out gun.

I'm also a firm believer every needs another gun so if you want a brand new one Benelli M2, Winchester SX4 and Weatherby all have turkey guns that look well set up.

I have a Sx3 that I love, shoots great. It is 3 1/2 inch capable but I have never ran a 3 1/2 inch shell through it. Like mentioned you could check out a Sx4, I'm sure they work well.

I have a remington 870 which works well for me but is only good to 3". If I had to do it over I will end up getting a benelli instead as they are really nice and shoot smooth.

i don't think its so much the gun, rather the ammo/ tube now.. if your walking light is always on my priority list for gun. with the TSS shot the rest really doesn't much matter for what gun.. 3/3.5" loads your choice there.. at 10$ round ….

Have shot 3.5” loads but not necessary IMO. Yes with TSS pretty much much any shotgun is worthy including the 410. Going to go with the 20 if it patterns good with the TSS 9’s if not the 12 it is until I can get the Red Dot mounted on my 20.
