Hancock Elk Draw
« on: May 08, 2019, 01:38:57 PM »
For those that buy the Hancock Pass (Kapowsin or Eatonville) the draw results are posted (they only put the permit # now, not the names...wonder why...?)

Wish they would give us a point for each year we have been a member.  INcrease the odds for the people who have been paying for years over the new guys/gals.

Ya... because that works so well in our state draw.

I know about 10 guys that have the Eatonville side, and none of us was the winner. Sure wish there was more than 1 permit drawn for that side. I usually find 3-4 dead bulls per year that didn't make it throgh the winter or died of old age. It would be nice if we had a chance to hunt them instead of them dying.

I'm kinda surprised they haven't offered a "elk season access" permit, limit it to 10 or 15 and charge a crap-load of money for it, you know, so they can say they are allowing public access and get even more revenue for their timber tax diversions...Ok, soap box aside, I am kinda surprised they don't sell an "elk season access pass", especially since they are imposing their own game management rules for deer, they could easily do the same for elk. Sell a separate permit just for elk season, make it so muzzy's can only kill a cow (reduce the cows to increase the bull population) and then sell a "bull access permit" for a few thousand dollars...

Yeah the number of elk in there is ridiculous.  The few tags they give out isnt enough to put a dent in the population.  Some days I see 60 elk in just driving one loop.  They should give out 10-20 tags a year, and that wouldnt eve put a dent in the numbers.

Crunchy...what's sad is that nature has a way of leveling off over-populations and we both know it's not nice...once hoofrot hits that area (which is only a matter of time) then it will be devastating...I agree, way too many elk in there, which is probably the real reason for the blacktail decline.

there are a lot more people who hunt in their than those permits. look at all the parcels owned by other companies inside. most of them let employees or their buddies hunt. but yeah it should have way more tags for those who pay for a permit.

I’ve heard if you draw the tag and go in there you will see the other parceowners in there with big elk camps in there having a great time hunting ever year. There is already more than 11 elk hunters in the unit and they will always limit the access permits to just a few so the owners can have a quality hunt.
