Advice on Carbon fiber barrels

I’m building a custom 7mm WSM for my new precision rifle. I’ve been looking at building a custom precision rifle for a while and my buddy has built many. His 7mm WSM holds a true sub MOA at 1000 yrds and still has over 1000 ftlbf to give.

So the question is, who’s got experience with carbon fiber barrels? All he runs are Christensen barrels but being custom, takes 6-8 months to receive one. I have looked at a CarbonSix barrel for my build, but I wanted to see if anyone had some input.

Buddy has sent his Christainsen back 3 times ( wouldn't shoot under 2" @ 100yrds. He switched to a Proof Research and has never had a problem.  Also I believe  Hells Canyon Armory  ( Site Sponsor I believe ) dabbles in Carbon wrapped barrels

Benchmark doesn’t make carbon barrels.

They do, however, provide the steel core/blanks to Hells Canyon Armory for their carbon barrels.

Proof research. I had a .300RUM built with a 28” CF tube. Love it! .28moa at 100yds w 200grn Accubonds.

Short answer, if you like how carbon wrapped barrels look and you are ok paying double + for a carbon wrapped barrel, absolutely get one, BUT, keep in mind, there is little to zero advantage, other than aesthetics, to a carbon wrapped barrel versus an all steel barrel of equal quality. 

Just about all of the different companies that do carbon fiber wrapped barrels will give you their sales pitch about how they wrap them in such a different and special way that their process is so much better and they'll also tell you about how the resin they use is so much better than all the other companies and their barrels dissipate heat like no other.  When you boil all the sales pitch BS off, it pretty much comes down to how they look.

Personally, I like how they look so it's not like I am dissing on carbon wrapped barrels, in fact I'm putting a Proof Research 6.5 Creedmoor barrel on a new AR10 I recently bought, but I'd be lying if I said I thought there was any advantage over an all steel barrel because there just isn't.  I think they look cool so I'm going to use one, but that's the only reason.

I am either old, old fashioned, or just cheap.  But give me a quality steel barrel any day over the new fad.  Put that extra money on a new trigger, better glass etc etc.

Nothing about this build is cheap. 1100$ Mausingfield action, 1200$ stock, Nightforce scope.... total build cost is about 4800

I think he was pointing you toward Proof Research barrels.

I got nothing for you as far as carbon fiber, but will 2nd the benchmark barrel crew and quality work.  I went with a #5 contour so it isnt exactly light, but shoots at least 1/2 MOA.  And to spin a barrel for you, I would guess 3 months or less.  Price at 390ish, another 120 for a brake, and 110 for cerakote.  Maybe do some barrel flutes and shave off some weight
