Spring Bear
« on: May 14, 2019, 07:10:06 AM »
We finally got to breathe some mountain air, and boy are our souls better for it.

This was one of the most challenging hunts we’ve been on for a variety of reasons.  The heat was pushing into the 90’s at 5000’ of elevation, and all critters great and small were laying low (including us—see our shade spot next to the burned out log).

We ended up seeing nine bears, though location kept us from the boars, and we can’t (and wouldn’t) shoot a sow and cubs.

The highlight on the hunting side was most definitely the sow and her 10 pound ball of fuzz that popped out 100 yards from us in the creek bottom.

But the hunting was only a small part of what made this trip so exceptional.  The country was unfathomably beautiful and brutal.  Camp ended up being approximately ten miles in, and spent in the company of some of my favorite people on this rock.

I laughed until I cried, enjoyed natures gifts, took mountain naps, shared delicious deserts, caught wind guided goldfish,  glassed bears until my eyes hurt, pushed myself physically, and got a nice start on my summer tan.

As always, thanks to my wife for supporting my passion, to my kids for whom I’m scouting the way, and my friends, Scott, Conlan, and Hannah.  THANK you for putting up with me.

What a great start to 2019.

As always, come check us out...
