.22 Creedmoor Improved
« on: May 16, 2019, 06:28:41 PM »
I ordered a reamer for a .22 Creedmoor Improved(40 Degree).Hadn’t decided what to call the chambering. Thought I would put it to the masses for a vote. The reamer is throated for the 95gr Sierra Matchkings.

6.5 Creedmoor/143gr ELD-X (Left)
.22 Creedmoor/195gr Sierra MK (Right)

The 22 Inversion, since your picture is upside down. :chuckle:

What is improved on it? Just shoulder angle? Or is it moved forward any?

I do like the 22 inversion.  :chuckle:

It’s weird. That’s how the website down loaded it.

My guess is that the round in the picture is a straight 22 Creedmoor, not a fire formed version of the improved case. Since this is one of Biggerhammer's creations, I'd assume a sharper shoulder and maybe a longer case body.

What’s the BCs on that?

To me this is just like the .224 Cheetah only with a heavier bullet.  For those who aren't up on the Cheetah it was a .224 off of the .243 Win case.    I wanted one bad and still have the unfinished thumbhole stock in my garage.

.22 195gr bullet!

What’s the BCs on that?

.600

Do the math on a .224 195gr Sierra MK with a BC of .600 @ 3100fps plus. 75gr @ 3600 plus.

WICKED, comes to mind.

Since the Creedmoor case is kinda an improved design with its 30 degree shoulder angle, if you blow it out to a 40 degree, maybe you should call it the 22 Creedmoorerer

It should be close to a 22-243 Improved.  I just had one built and picked it up last week, I can tell you what they'll do with an 80gr ELD-M and ballistically speaking, they're no slouch.

Are you thinking it'll take something around a 2 or 3 twist to stabilize that "195gr" 22 caliber bullet?  I'm a little surprised the BC isn't something like 1.600 and I'm guessing it has an EXTREMELY longgggggggggggg bearing surface too.  A one hundred and ninety five grain 22 caliber SMK, you are absolutely right, WICKED, does come to mind. :chuckle:

Unless this is a new prototype missile of a bullet designed by NASA, I'll go out on a limb and bet you meant 95gr SMK not 195 because if it's not, that's a bullet worthy of being called a Boondoogle.  ;)

At the velocities a 6.5 twist will be optimal but a 7 will work just fine. For across the board performance the 88gr ELD-M is hard to beat.

Yes that 95gr! iPhone typo on the fly.
