One of the few things that I miss about the Vail permit is my huckleberry spot. It’s only an hour drive but instead I have to go to my other spot in Idaho. Looks like I missed a banner year this year. Next summer I’ll head East and restock.

This is the only huckleberry I've ever known.  You'd have to pick a million of them to make anything usefull.

Had better luck with the huckleberries yesterday than we did with hucklebears.  Little Pathfinder and I got about a gallon.

Because other than the huckleberries, Vail sucks! Won't buy another Weyco permit until they do something about the rampant poaching by permit holders and brush pickers.

Actually a lot of service berries is more likely i guess.  Those suckers are seedy, and ive never found hawthorne on this mtn.

Found some in SW WA at 4000' yesterday.  Still a lot to come.  Salmonberries were loaded.  Topped off the huckleberry buckets.  Will have to check the hawthorns when get back to Kelly Hill.

Actually a lot of service berries is more likely i guess.  Those suckers are seedy, and ive never found hawthorne on this mtn.

they are so similar it’s hard to say. Majority of the service berries I find are in the hawthorn patches.  I can tell you those areas are a nightmare to recover bear in. They crawl in deep in the tunnels of 1-2” spikes.

We found a pile of ripe huckleberries last week around 5200 ft. Stuffed myself with them on a lunch break!  Wish I had a way to pick more to bring back,  but I had elk on my mind!
