It’s all in how you look at it.  The surest way to keep losing is to keep playing.  If you put in, you send a message to the department to keep doing what they are doing.  Your money directly supports their actions and inactions.

I respect everyone who applies and hope they draw, but I realized I can’t pay, play and complain at the same time.

Be interesting to know how many people changed this year to buying less or none compared to last year.

I bought more.

The last sentence puts it into prospective. Well said.

Only quality deer and OIL for me. Once QD is drawn, which may never happen, it will be just OIL. With that said, if they were to change to a different point system or get rid of it entirely, I would be back in.

Like I've said a million times, treat it like added opportunities and not an investment (because its not). Only odds worse than apply is not applying :twocents:

I think the general public would probably feel less bamboozled by the  department  if they just called it a “donation” instead of an application fee.

Yep, everything but antlerless deer or second deer.  Maybe I'm luckier than most or maybe I just put in for the less desirable permits, but since the points game started in 1996, I've drawn the following:

1996 – East Ross Lake Goat - Filled
1997 – None
1998 – None
1999 – None
2000 – Quilomene Any Buck, Archery – Did Not Fill
2001 – Goose Prairie Any Bull, Archery – Did Not Fill
2002 – Green Bluff Antlerless, Muzzleloader – Did Not Use
2003 – None
2004 – Esquatzel Any Deer, Muzzleloader – Did Not Use
2005 – Moses Coulee Any Deer, Muzzleloader – Did Not Fill
2006 – Skokomish Any Bull, Muzzleloader – Did Not Fill
2007 – None
2008 – None
2009 – None
2010 – Blue Mountains Foothills Quality Deer, Muzzleloader – Did Not Fill; Skokomish 3 Pt Min Bull, Muzzleloader – Did Not Fill
2011 – Patterson Any Buck, Muzzleloader – Did Not Fill
2012 – Toutle Quality Elk, Modern - Filled; Margaret Antlerless Elk, Modern - Did Not Use
2013 – Palouse 3 Pt Whitetail Buck, Modern - Filled
2014 – Cleman Mountain Any Ram - Filled
2015 – Kettle Range-East Okanogan Any Moose - Filled; Upper Smith Creek Antlerless Elk, Muzzleloader – Did Not Use; Palouse 3 Pt Whitetail Buck - Filled, Modern; Skagit Quality Deer, Modern – Did Not Use
2016 – None
2017 – None
2018 – White River Any Bull, Modern - Filled

2015 was my best year for permits and since they didn't make goat OIL until 1999, I'm still in for them, though I've taken 3 in the state since 1972.  I always look at the permit hunts as extra hunting time or a bonus.  A couple of the permits didn't get used because I tagged out prior to the permit season.  It does cost a bit to keep putting in for all the options an I totally get why people opt out, but I figure it's relatively cheap in the scheme of things.

Good luck to everyone this year.

Dave

I got 15 for both Quality Deer and Bull elk.  Once those are drawn I will likley just put in for QE and OILs.

I know the odds are low, but I get to dream for 3-4 weeks.  After that I will enjoy the woods with OTC hunts.

:yeah:  boom.  Ignore the points. Just put in for an opportunity to win a dream hunt. Maybe you will, maybe you won’t.

Dang. You’re about as lucky as I’ve ever seen.... I would say that definitely not the norm. Nice work!
