I did, but each year I seem to cut down on what I apply for.
Last year I had my "come to Jesus" moment when I realized I had spent more $$ to hunt in Washington than in Wyoming!  For that, I had a nice Wyoming deer hunt and ...    anyway, I set myself a $300 limit for Washington, resulting in no multiseason application or license purchase, and fewer special hunt permit applications.  I feel better about what I have, and plan to enjoy the opportunities I can take.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

I applied for everything as usual. Did points only for antlerless species cuz I am betting I'll do well with a WY Elk tag & other out of state tags I may draw & should be set for meat this year. I have max points in OIL & deer but realize the odds still suck but still like to play the game.  :)

I quit a few years ago when I lost my hunting partners (Brothers). Cant do it by myself anymore. Shot a spike one year, next year they went spike only and started the draw for bulls. Applied every year for bull and cow tags. Year after year one of us would be up and personable with a big bull but seldom came across a spike. After some years we drew cow tags and burned all of our points. Next season they split the points between categories and we started from zero again, in all categories. Never drew again. Once I lost my crew I realized that I couldn't give the tag justice on my own so I quit putting in. It wasn't so much the money, It was more of if I drew, could I actually go after them like I used to? And eventually it turned into, if I got one down, could I get it out? Finally it turned into not going after them at all.

I only applied because I drew multi-elk, but after purchasing that tag+ applications, and deer, bear, etc...
I am through with special permits.

Sorry that you don't hunt anymore or have anyone to go with that can assist. I took my Dad until he was 82. This last year, he just camped in the area in which I had a permit. I saw him only a little.  Don't know if he'll do that again, but I hope so.

I really respect your decision making process.  I hate to see hard-to-draw tags wasted because the permit holder can't do it justice.  That appears to happen in the Blues a fair amount.

I think next year I’m going out of state and just doing OTC Washington without special permits or Timber company permits. This year was insane for the amount I spent here in Washington.

I apply for quality permits in WA and hunt out of state for my OTC tags. I also hunt blacktail because you can have a damn good hunt the last 5 days of October on a OTC tag here in western wa. I probably won't ever hunt a general elk season here again though.

Pretty much this.   I will give a general smoke pole (first ever time with ML) Wapiti tag a whirl this year tho. Will let you know how it goes Rory.

Once you get a taste of how much better out of state OTC tags are compared to WA, most will likely never hunt here again unless drawn for a permit.  2007 was my first out of state elk hunt, and I have gone every year since expect once when I drew something good here in WA.  More elk, longer season, less pressure, no private land access fees.  No comparison.

Thanks Rory!  :chuckle:  ML is the only weapon I've considered picking up and hunting elk in WA with again. We'll see. Could be a fun.

Too Hard-headed to stop applying.
17 moose points, 14 quality Elk and Deer points.
So my odds are fair at best, but gotta try. Been throwing money away for this many years, why stop now.
But if I ever do get drawn, then I won't apply for that specific tag again.
No reason to start back at 1 point.  I'd just likely be donating until I die.
That's sad to say when I'm early 50s and will hopefully be hunting another 20 years, so help me God.

I spend more in one trip to Costco than I do on apps..no brainier for me.. even though it's a small chance, it's still a chance for the hunt of a lifetime.

Yes....sorta. Wife said no thanks, but my daughter said she wanted to put in after a year off so that was nice! So, went all in for my Son & Daughter. I applied for only a few different deer & elk tags.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!
