synthetic stocks?

I'm looking to lighten up my rem. mdl. 700 30-06. I have been considering putting a synthetic stock on it and was wondering what you folks could recommend? thanks for the info.

how much do you want to spend? you can really run the full spectrum here.
bell and carlson can be decent, mcmillan is top notch, hs precision can be good, etc etc etc.

not really sure? I was looking at a few at cabelas, they were right at 75.00 to 100.00 bucks, are those worthy?

I'd check the weight of the synthetic against the weight of the wood before I did anything.  I have seen some synthetic stocks that were heavier then wood.

i think the $75 ones would be mostly cosmetic.

yes, the cheaper ones are mostly cosmetic and sound like an amplified children's plastic hammer when you bounce them off a try branch going through the timber.   I would suggest that you look at the higher quality ones - or possibly even try to find a new Remington XCR stock would fit your rifle.  I seem to remember someone trying to sell one recently on here - but not sure if it would fit your action.

Look at the Hogue rubber coated ones.  As far as a B&C, McMillan, or HS Precision... fairly certain he wanted it lighter guys

For $75 I don't think you will find a better deal than Woodswalker's XCR stock.

fill them with spray foam insulation...works well and adds little weight..but go slowly as you can bulge the stock if you get too carried away.  use some lightweight epoxy in the forend if needed or to set more sling studs.

thanks for info fella's. I also heard about using the spray foam on some of the stocks. I really wasn't looking to spend more than $150, but also didn't want to end up with junk.

Woodswalker, I believe I have a adl short action? pardon my ignorance, but I am mostly an archer.

If it's a .30-06 it's a long action.  I'd look into Woodswalker's stock, it should work.  Show me a picture of your rifle and I'll be able to tell you more.

I'd buy the XCR stock of here also.  If you don't want to spend more than a 100 bucks you won't beat it.

I had Doc at MPI in Portland build me one for my 300 ultra mag.  It is awesome.  Spendy but well worth it.  Im 6'5'' with long armes and big hands and it actually fits me because he did all my measurements.  All factory stocks are way to short for me.  It is amazing the difference it makes in your shooting.

Yep that's good, the 700 XCR is a full length bottom metal hinged floor plate design, yours is not.  You could replace the bottom metal as well for fairly cheap and get that stock and still stay under your budget you set.    Let me know if you need me to find you one, I'll help you piece this together if you want to go with the XCR.

Just a little note, the stock you would need is the "ADL" if you want to stick with the current configuration, the XCR stock is a bdl.  BDL's stocks offer WAY more options, such as drop mag capabilities, hinged floorplates, etc.  A guy can drop a lot of dough on a rifle when you start getting into quality floor plate's and quality stocks.  For my rifles it ends up costing more than the barreled action

The XCR stock is actually a pretty good stock. I have one sitting here on my reloading bench that I'm fixing to install on my father-in-law's rifle. It's about the only factory synthetic stock that I have any respect for at all. All my rifles wear HSP stocks... but they're not exactly light.

MPI i had doc put a stock on my custom abolt they are very nice stocks they are very spendy.
