I drew Steptoe
« on: June 21, 2019, 12:50:53 PM »
Seems to be a good number of places to hunt there but I'm not finding anyplace to stay; camping or motels.  Any tips would be appreciated.

There's a motel in Colfax.

I believe there is a coug home game that weekend, so hotels in the surrounding area are going to be a premium.  Depending on where you are hunting, Lewiston/Clarkston are close by too.

Dang Beavers.  That's going to make things tougher.

The fairgrounds before colfax should be open.  The water will probably be shut off but they have electric hookups.  I’ve stayed there for the late Palouse tag

 :yeah:

Two hotels in Colfax and the fairgrounds are a good option if you've got a camper. There are a few small places to hook up campers around the area too, but I've never used them so I'm not sure about names you could look up. I think there is one in the town of palouse though.

Tent and an electric heater work fine at the fairgrounds as well.

Private RV park in town of Steptoe and St. John.  Open year around.  Neither are fancy but both welcome hunters.

Yes for all the tips.  I'm really looking forward to this hunt, should be fun if I can stay warm and dry.

Where are you hunting?

Not sure exactly where yet but somewhere between Palouse and St John.  Depends on what lands I can get on.  Last year I hunted a couple spots in the private land system during the muzzleloader season; came up empty but I saw a few animals.  Mostly well beyond muzzy range.  There is a lot of wide open on the Palouse.  Love the area.

I need to brush up on my long-range shooting.
