I have the same tag. Have had it before and several of my partners have as well. Very tough unless you get permission from a landowner. There is quite a bit of public land but it’s pretty high and not many whitetails. My old man had it last year and settled on a small 4 point last day. If you can get in with a property owner it would be a different story

Typically a whitetail is pretty squirrelly and mule deer don’t breed them. But a whitetail buck will breed a muley doe.
Toughest tag I have ever been on. Sorry to say that, we had a great hunt but finding Mr. Whitey on public land up in the top will not be easy.We saw tons of great mulies, sheep, turkeys, eagles, ducks, geese and a great museum, but exactly zero white tail on public. You can look down a thousand feet or more and see plenty on private by the rivers and creeks. In my opinion, this should not be a draw tag.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The farmers that own land there in those units kill great bucks every year. I feel like it’s one of those permit hunts where you have to pay attention to what you’re applying for unless you have access or you own land in the applicable units. If it’s mostly private ground and you don’t have access to said private ground, maybe it’s not the hunt for you.

Looking on my onx whats up with the privet land that say huntable and show parking areas? are these areas for sure cool to hunt? also any one know any good trailer camping spots in the blue mt east area down lower.
When I was scouting that area back in august, most of the properties showing on OnX were hunt by written permission which requires contacting the property owner. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dont hunt 175 unit they took that out last year and only give out 1 tag for that unit. Whitetail by misery is hard to believe.

Well we pounded the ground in areas 181 and 172, got permission on 2 land owners both having over 1,200 acers each also hit all the blm and chief joseph wildlife areas available to hunt in these two units. Tag soup. Very few does and only saw 2- spikes 1- forked. Talking with 1/2 doz land owners they all had same story 1 year with blue tong and 2 bad winter kills there are just no white tail or very few left in these units. They also all agreed that the up coming muzzy season they were hoping that the state would shut down the doe harvest but that did not happen ( so if yer a muzzy guy and want to try to help out the white tail crisis don't shoot them for a couple years.). We also ran in to 2 other hunters who were so frustrated with the amount of or lack of deer they pulled camp and headed north to finish late buck out. would like to here from some of the other 47 tag holders.
