Classifed Board only for users with 50 posts?
« on: March 30, 2009, 09:42:45 PM »
"Starting next week on the morning of April 7th access to the Classifieds Board will be restricted to members who have more than 50 posts.

The intent is to limit fraud and also to deter users who would like to utilize our boards for the purpose of a business.

Thanks for your concern.

There are a lot of complaints about the current situation. Questions about people's crediblity with one or zero posts just trying to sell of lots of items. This is one of the simplest ways to weed people out who are not really community members but instead want to purely push products. It definitely will impact a lot of people but if they are here for hunting information they can still get it. It is also an incentive to contribute (more as a side effect).

I am completely aware that
1) There is no real way of measuring up credibility on the internet.
2) This will alienate some people.

I believe it is a good move.

Does everyone realize that people would not be able to read the posts?   I have no problem with limint someone from posting a message.  But next week I will not be able to read the classified boards.  I have purchased a few things on there already....So you are also limiting your buying audience

you only have 43 to go. you have made 4 posts in the last 5 minutes. it doesn't take too long.

People can reply to posts without posting anything though.  Problem is that they dont count to the 50 total posts.  The 50 is only new posts, not replies.   I have not posted one thing for sale on the classifieds, but I read them and have bought thngs off them.  What do you do about guys like me?  From what you say, I will not be able to read any of the messages on the classified board.

Correct. I already clarified this to you in a personal message. I fully am going to roll this out. Regardless of the poll results.

Yeah, but I dont know that everyone fully realized that.   You say the problem is people posting with no credibility or zero posts...seems there is other ways to handle it instead of removing Read access also.

Maybe qualify a poster to the board or something?

Life is never that simple. The board software would have to support a number of features. It's not really designed to be a classified system.

50 posts is a good idea, it gives people a chance to build credibility with each other.  I've sold a few things on here to guys I've never met other than online and my goods shipped and the check arrived and cleared with no more than a pm handshake.  I would never trust a deal like that on craigslist.

So tonight if I posted 42 seperate posts that were absolutely worthless.... it would make me more worthy in the classified boards?

There are shooting boards I frequent that has the same set-up but at 25 posts, doesn't seem to impact anyone but the guys who are only there to buy and sell.
I have no problem with it.
