What's your favorite archery target?

Just curious to what people have set up for targets in their back yards. Just looking for a solid target for field tips that will hold up over time. Anyone try out the hurricane bag targets?

Rinehart block, hands down. 18” I believe. Replace the core every two years.

Big boy archery makes the best bang for your buck foam target imo. The shipping is like 100$ but a 36x36 is 175$ and will last you many years. I have maybe 1,000 arrows in mine and can’t even tell.

I will follow my Matrix suggestion with I have owned the rhinehart, and while they are a great target. The Matrix absolutely holds up better, not even a comparison. If you shoot alot, do yourself a favor and buy the Matrix.

I use a heavy duty cardboard box stuffed with shrink wrap. When the box wears out I put the shrink wrap in a new box. I have been using the same shrink wrap for 20 years. I have had to add some once in a while. It stops field points great and it is easy to pull the arrows after the shot. Cheap too. If you know someone who works in a warehouse or someplace where they use the stuff you can get it free, I do.

I've had mine just over six months, and I'm already shooting through most sides. (Trying hard to see if I can shoot through all 18 sides, so I can take advantage of their warranty.)

That said, it's lasted me longer than most of my targets, and I really like the 18 sides to shoot at.

I have had a few over the years, usually the cheap $30-40 variety.  field points are ok in them for a while.  If you are shooting daily, about a year with just field points.  However to be ready for hunting season we need to shoot our broadheads a bit and those cheape layered ones loose thier mustard everywhere after 10+ broadhead hits.

I picked up a used Bulldog Range Dog target 2 years ago that is my primary practice target, nice and big for those early season practices when you are rusty.

I have shot WapitiTalk's Rhinehart a few times and last year finally bit the bullet and bought one.  They are just damn durable and I keep that one around to use broadheads on.

Thanks for the reminder, I really need to get out and start shooting again, I am way behind!

Another vote for the Rineharts.  I have the bag and the cubes.  As well as some deer targets, and a turkey target (I forget which manufacturer for those).  Ok, so my back yard is littered with archery targets.  I leave them up year round.

Since January, I've shot several thousand arrows at my Rinehart, maybe a few dozen of them broadheads. It's mostly falling apart at this point - of the six major sides, four of them have been shot clean through, with the rubber falling out in big clumps, and it's starting to lose its shape. It's frankly not bad - it's probably held up better than anything else I've tried (haven't tried a Matrix), but it's certainly not gonna last a full year.

I use round bales of hay, got lots to choose from 
 

I did find that the wetter ones work best, some of them were baled from damper areas that are slower to dry than the rest of the field, so I grab those.

Make sure to get the one with the replaceable core They make two that look identical in pictures, but only one has the removable core. (think it is the "xl"?)  Then be sure to only shoot broadheads at that core.  That way when it dies, you buy a new core to slide in and off you go.

Again. Matrix. I bet I have 300 - 400 broadheads in it, maybe more. No real signs of it. I'm telling you guys. I was a rhinehart guy for a long time...never again.

20 plus years ago I used compressed cedar bail butts, made for archery. I would stack two of them for a huge back drop. You could get them at feed stores. They lasted for years. I was shooting a PSE Magnaflight with 48" laminated maple limbs! A blazing 225 FPS!  Still the most accurate bow I have ever shot.

I wonder how those bails would stop todays fast bows with skinny arrows?

It has a zipper close and whenever I get a pass through I stuff a bunch of plastic bags, sheet plastic, rags, or whatever I have on hand in there and it's good to go.

I have this one for broadheads, works perfect but getting arrows out is no fun.  I haven't used it much as I only shoot a few broadheads a year to check tune.

For field tips I have picked up the big hurricane bag from sportsmans warehouse. I only use my rinehart 18-1 for broadheads or in camp.

Probably fine, not a huge difference in penetration like you'd think.  My bow is a 30in draw at 71lbs bowtech realm x shooting high ke arrows and I get maybe an inch deeper than a 28 draw bowtech shooting speed arrows at 60 some lbs draw weight. Was shocked at the lack of difference in total penetration. Mine hits like a hammer and rocks the target more, I think it would blow trough a shoulder and keep going

Yah yah.  It is the BH box.  Didn't hunt archery last year after I bought it, so never shot BH at it!  :-p  I shoot all my field points at the bulldog outside in the shed.

Yes collecting dust again this year most likely.  Crossing fingers for AZ draw happening as we speak.

Can hardly miss with this one! But if you shoot too high..... it's a real pain to pull the arrows.

Ended up purchasing a rinehart 18 & 1 as they were on sale. I can't wait to try it out when it arrives. I will update everyone with my review and results. I'm excited as my last two broadhead targets finally fell apart beyond repair.

Those are good for small take along targets, 365 targets are great as well and you can turn and replace the cores as they get shot out. Plus they have a lot more surface area for your buck.

I have had a blob broadhead target for several years. Still shooting at it. It’s a good durable target. They are real heavy. I use a handcart when I need to move mine.

I have been useing the heck out of my 18&1 and have been very impressed with it lately, glad I found it on sale and finally pulled the trigger on getting one. I love the warranty it has as well. Make me want to get out and shoot everyday. It's simple and easy to throw in the back of the truck and move around. I like how small and compact it is. Excellent for everyday target shooting with my broadheads!

I built a lighted archery shed with bales and enough backing to stop my rifles. For targets I bring home 2" rigid foam panels from the jobsites. They are large enough to cut out full size elk. I've a dozen lifesize critters stacked for easy pull down. Cheap and last a long time. Real tight and only get a half arrow penetration into bales. Just gotta get used shooting pink animals. I also mark them to show vitals, bones

That's perfect! Great idea. I used to make alot of homemade targets but got tierd of them slowly over time falling apart. Wanted something light to carry around to camp for me and the rest of camp to shoot at. I just love getting off work and shooting untill it gets dark out. I've even set up a lighted  area as well so I can shoot all night long of I want to. Just a great stress relief shooting the bow every day. Noatyer what the season I shoot my bow year around. That way come September there's no starting over from a down season... Looking forward to puting this target through the warranty they offer.
