Yea I scout that area some there but have been hunting it for a while so I know where the animals tend to hang at.

Good on you for getting out. I haven't done much dedicated scouting in several years as I pretty much have my spots ironed out. It's never a bad thing though and always tell myself I should be doing more of it.

Yeah, I’m a bit of a wanderer. I have a few spots I’ll usually hunt that are all scouted and good to go, but this year I decided to hunt new areas for deer and elk seasons. Plus it’s just fun gettin out seeing new country .

Got down to some new country this weekend. Ran into 50+ elk, 4 or 5 bulls, and a nice big bear. Set up 3 cameras for the season and can't help but get excited!

Sounds like an awesome trip! We were looking for a new deer spot, but seemed to find a moose spot instead.

Beautiful looking country.
I'm stuck working this week, should get a few days to scout next week though. Hope I can find some country that looks that nice!

Not yet. Life keeps getting in the way. Had planned a scouting trip months in advance but forgot that it was Father's day weekend. Apparently my wife didn't like my answer when she asked if I wanted to do anything for father's day (my answer was a 3 day scouting trip with a member on here). Oh well, here's hoping for an opportunity in July...

Great looking country and camp in those photos though

Got out for a solid scout yesterday. My brother, myself and a buddy from out of town are planning a 8 day backcountry hunt this sept. My brother and I hiked into a wilderness area and had a little look around. Found a couple camp options, water locations and areas to hunt. We put up a few trail cameras and will prob go back at the end of the month to check the cameras. Not hoping for much on them with regards to giant bulls or anything, just hoping so see a few elk on them. In case anyone is wondering, the mosquitoes were out in full force too!
Never having hunted this area, now I’m just curious if the crowds come Sept ?

Scouted last weekend in new area for me for the general early archery hunt.  Lots of hikers, not much fresh sign, no animals seen.  Disappointing. Checking a diff area this coming weekend, then off to fish AK before the elk opener.

Got out yesterday on a solo scout and food cache mission. Was a beautiful day out, I never see much sign in this new area, but the trail cams tell a very different story. Lots of cows on my cams so far and that’s all I was hoping for! Going to be three of us in camp this year. We’ll be in a WA wilderness area so I’m sure I’ll see a few of you out there on the trails... good luck and be safe out there.

At this point I've scouted and hunted them for a long time, so I know pretty much exactly where they'll be.

That is, until the idiot walkie-talkie Dad/Son combo (or some other yahoos), show up and throw a monkey wrench in the opening day plans.

 :bash:

Regardless, it'll be nice to just be out spending some time soaking up one of my favorite places on the planet for 7-10 days.

Yeah, it would be nice if more people realized that some of those deeper areas on the map are already being hunted every year by a handful of people that know exactly what they are doing AND oftentimes by the two different father/son(s) combo teams that apparently don't have the foggiest clue how to hunt it but run all over the place and spook game anyway.  Then layer on the REI crowd.  Lots of people for sure.

So Skyvalhunter, you wouldn't happen to know either of the unethical dad/son(s) that use walkie-talkies, do you?

One of the dads is a scrawy little dork with mouthy sons and the other is apparently a WDFW Hunters Ed instructor with a son that wears trail running shoes and has mountain goat legs.  None of them can hunt worth a darn without being coached in with walkie talkies. You'd think a Hunter's Ed instructor would be more ethical AND be able to teach his son how to actually shoot a rifle instead of trying to guide him in and jump shoot dink bucks and occasionally wound them and leave them to die in the alders.  I don't think they have any clue how many people are watching and listening to their clown show.

We're taking HD video cameras and scanners in this year. Who knows...maybe we'll make 'em famous.  ;)

I can't say I personally know of the ones you are talking about. I know a father and son that hunt in there but are mostly camped and hunting the Butte.

I would say change up spots. You don’t like the idiots and they ruin your spot. I don’t play well with others on the high hunt. I don’t work that hard to get in there to see anyone. I honestly can say I’ve seen one other hunter in 6 years on the high hunt.
