At that price point I would consider the CZ line or the ruger red label. Occasionally on GB you can find a used Browning with fixed chokes for that price point. Honestly if it was me I would save a bit more and get the beretta or browning depending on what fits. It will be a life long gun at the 1500-1800 range. Just my 5 cents. Do to inflation.

If wanting new in that price range, CZ is a good choice with multiple options.

Although I do like the Mossberg Silver II because it comes with both 12ga and 20ga barrels for around $800.  Most Stevens, Stoeger, and Mossberg models are under your budget number.  I like CZ more and would get one of those in the $800-$1000 range.

Browning's/Beretta's O/Us are beautiful guns, but I'm not sure you can find a used one in your price range.  They hold value too well.

Depends on what you're using it for.  My O/U is just a hunting gun (not competitive skeet/trap/etc), so I have a cheap Baikal.  Thing is built like a tank, and has been reliable for me for many years, and much less expensive.

This one is a little higher priced but I think they're a pretty nice OU shotgun and maybe the owner would be willing to do a little better deal, I think he's currently asking $1550 shipped.

Weatherby Orion at Sportsman’s warehouse comes in at the bottom of your budget. I have a 20 gauge I bought in 2001 and I love it. Mine was made by a Japanese company and now they come out of Turkey, I believe. But it’s still a Weatherby design & they have to meet Weatherby quality control. If I can afford it I’ll be getting a 12 gauge before I make my October trip to North Dakota.

I have a Beretta silver Pigeon 12 Ga I’d let go for 1600.00.  I paid about 2 for it 5 years ago.  Shot about 10 rounds through it and it’s been sitting in the safe ever since.  It’s in perfect shape with the case and all accessories.

 :yeah:   This is solid advice.

I would lean towards recommending you save just a bit more and find a used Beretta O/U, but that's just my bias talking since I collect them.  They lock up like bank vaults after many, many thousands of rounds, rebuilds are straightforward if you ever get to that point, and as already mentioned, they have a tendency to hold or increase in value. And if you get one that's seen some field use, you won't cry the first time you put a dent or scratch in the wood or if an excited lab shakes mud all over it.   :yike: :chuckle:

Brownings Citoris are wonderful as well. Great actions. The little SKB 20 guage side-by-sides (the Japanese versions, not the newer Turkish production runs) are SWEET little clay and bird busters.

If you're a shrewd and patient buyer you can occasionally find a really nice shotgun (or two!) at estate sales for a song.  I picked up a $7,500 Zoli for $600 once!

Whatever you do...make sure it fits you well!

Nothing worse than having a pretty gun that you can't shoot for crap!

All this said...what is the application? Shooting games like trap, skeet and sporting clays or for upland bird?

I see the Op is in Issaquah.  There is a good shooting coach that operates out of Seattle Skeet and Shoot down near Ravensdale that can help with fit.  Worth the one hour session, in my opinion.

Too general; what are you going to use it for?

Trap, skeet, upland, waterfowl ...  ??

Getting back into upland and looking for an o/u for around $1000.  Don't plan to shoot a lot of trap.

Considering a 20g instead of 12.
