New arrow trouble
« on: July 06, 2019, 09:44:52 PM »
So this week I picked up a dozen Easton full metal jackets. Two of them, I can’t get any type of tip in.  I tried a couple different field points and a broad head. They go in a little and then I can’t turn it anymore. Is there a fix to this, or do I have to throw those expensive arrows away?

Sounds like glue in the hits

Get a drill bit that barely fits and BY HAND spin it inside to remove the glue that’s in front of the insert. Whoever installed the insert used too much glue and didn’t clean glue buildup off the tool as they went.

acetone will do the trick.  If not that screw in a field point best you can and heat the field point ONLY with a propane torch.  That should allow you to get the insert out.

I tend to use too much glue on my inserts I just use the threads from a field point .to scrape the excess glue in front of the insert

I think a 8/32 tap is what I use to chase the threads to get rid of the glue. Somebody can check me on that.

Did you cut and install yourself? If not, take them back and make them do the work again.

No, they were done at Sportsman's Warehouse in Silverdale where I bought them. The archery people aren't there a lot of the time, so it's probably easier to do it myself.

In that case, I’d do like Crunchy said and clean it with acetone.

Well, a little over an hour, 2 size drill bits & a leatherman and I got my 3 arrows fixed up. Thanks everyone for teaching me how to fix them. Is there a good place to buy the equipment to start cutting arrows, putting the inserts in, etc myself?

Not supposed to heat carbon, it is easily compromised by heat.  They dont use hot melt on carbon for that reason, and not many insert adhesives are heat reversible.
