Good chance the owner got beat to his dogs. It's a common problem, hounds are like Olympic runners, they are skinny when in good condition and the average person happens along and thinks the dogs are starving and lost, so they pick them up and transport them out of the area before the owner can get to them to pick them up.

There could have been a split race and the owner was at a treed bear or rounding up his other dogs, or these dogs got split apart from other dogs for any of several reasons, these are all very common things that can happen when hunting dogs. So the dogs find a road looking for their owner and before he can get there someone picks them up. In the photo they don't look in bad condition to me. But at this point the owner needs to know where his dogs went so he can go get them. Hopefully everyone with contacts in Idaho will spread the word.

Depending on the setting 24-72 hours, idaho has a lot of repeat names but if this is the fish creek off highway 12 they either ended up there by accident or the guy is a complete idiot.  More wolves then you can shake a stick at and no roads.

Lots of IEP lands near CDA. If the owner didn't recharge before hunting the batteries might not have lasted very long, hard to second guess the situation?  :dunno:

def hard to 2nd guess so I don't

thought I matched up those dogs with another lost hounds post from back in may also with dead GPS collars, turns out they were different hounds and those ones got back to the owners.

hope these ones get back to their owners too, and hopefully the owners gets some ID tags with phone numbers on it.

I've had an ID tag pop off the ring on my dogs collar while hunting.  I double up now.  With a "plate ID" that slides over the collar (harder to get that one off), and another ID on the ring on the collar.   As well as chipped and ear tattoo as well.

Hopefully these dogs make it back to their owner.

Odd that neither dog had ID tags? You would think since they had garmin collars that they would have ID tags?

That's what I thought too.  I shared it with a few buddies in that area.

We stopped putting ID tags on our bird dogs collars.  I've never had them survive more than 1-2 hunts and I got tired of replacing them.

Get your collars/tags from a hound hunting supply, the name tags rivet to your collars (that will last). Tags usually outlast the collars, I sometimes drill out the rivets to put tags on new collars that don't have a tag.

These come with tags:

The guy updated the thread on Facebook. The hounds are not chipped. Nobody has claimed them and they’re at a shelter.
