2004 Cummins TPS
« on: July 08, 2019, 07:53:05 PM »
Anyone had good or bad luck with the aftermarket replacement accelerator position sensor on a Cummins? My 04 is starting to act up so I’m going to pick one up to keep handy, I need to clean the connections well and make sure that’s not the problem first, but I want one handy in case it fails. Just curious if there’s any to steer away from.

I’ve found factory parts are usually the best.  :twocents:

You will be way better served with factory. Had a 2004 and went through 4 or 5 aftermarket TPS and finally went back to factory and it worked until I sold the truck. :twocents:

Have used this one on many customers pickups. Just needs to be the one mounted to the engine. There is a little setup to use it.

I used this one on my last 01 for about 60k miles. No issues when I sold it. https://www.dnrcustoms.com/store/p199/Timbo_APPS_Sensor.html

Its possible its the same one as above. You will need a multi meter to set it up IIRC.

I went with this guys sensor after doing some research 2-3 years ago on my 2004 Cummings. Easy install, only thing you need to do if your engine is chipped is dechip it install sensor, then rechip it. Ask me how I know🤣, I dechipped mine and it would idle fine but had no power to drive once I rechipped ran great. And I run the Smarty programable software.👍
I always run the low end horsepower from Smarty’s so I’ve never dechipped it then readjusted the APPS/TPS sensor.

Thanks Boss, that was exactly the info I was looking for. I have a smarty jr in there now, so that’s easy enough. That guy has a great write up I’m glad you shared it!  Thanks again.

All three links are the same sensor. It works well. I  have one on my 2000 Cummins dodge also.
