If anyone does draw the tag, I would strongly advise them against ripping around on the road network in the middle of a hot afternoon way up high in the dry basalt on a loud two-stroke dirt bike with a recurve bow and a bundle of mixed arrows slung across their back in the hopes of taking a giant bull (after they've been putting in 18 years for the quality tag) while pausing every now and then to rip out a "locator bugle"...and then get pissy that others are out recreating on public land and blaming them for screwing up their hunt.

That may have been the most absurd waste of time I've ever seen in the woods.

when I had the tag a few years ago, only people I saw was an older couple who drove a jeep along the same ridge road every morning and evening. I talked to them one day and they said they would drive to a few spots, get out and hike 50 yards over the edge and sit and listen. If they didn't hear anything after a bit they moved to next spot. Few days later they stopped at camp at lunch and said they were done with their tags and headed out to try and fill some deer tags because it was "too hot and there were no elk". I killed my bull about 1/4 mile from where I talked to them after calling him in to 23 yards.  :chuckle:

Ah yes. I know that bull well. I passed him opening morning.  He had a good thing going until you guys killed him lol. That's bought turned into chaos last 2 days of the season.  Out like talking about this stuff publicly so I'll shoot you a PM. I'll be there with a tag holder this season
