Just go buy a Kimber and don't worry about changing anything!! :chuckle: Or, my dream 1911 would be a Wilson Combat. Those are sweeeeet.

For total competition custom look to Infinity. For carry custom look to Kimber.  :twocents:

Sorry no pics. You did not really specify what you want the gun for but  the difference between a comp gun and a carry gun can be significant.
Although a “limited” gun can also make a great carry piece also.

In a carry gun Id look to a match grade barrel, ambi safty as well slide release, full length guide rod in the hollow version to keep weight down, a good trigger like any from Wilson, SVI, vedeki (sp), ect. I like Smith and Alexander Mag well’s. Mag wells are bulky but help with speed reloading. I like a lighter skeletonised hammer to keep weight down and decrease lock time. I love Custom Larry Davidson G10 grips. I like a full length beavertail, New Wilson or the like seer spring, A trigger job is a must.
To really make it sweet Id have everything custom fitted also, Most of the money can go to the gunsmith as parts aren’t that bad. But when not fitted things just aren’t as clean looking with flowing feel and look. Safety’s and such should be smoothed as they hang up on clothes and holsters. Trigger would be 3 pounds, no take, no creep.
Parkerizing the front strap, even custom slide grips machined in. Sky’s the limit.

For a comp gun Id look toward the same but use a full weight guide rod, Id have accurails done, but there too tight for a defense gun IMO.
I’d have it chambered in 9mm major. It’s pretty much replaced the 38 super for open comp guns.  I’d have a double stacker with custom cut grip tape for a grip. These guns from Infinity and the like range out to 5 to 6 thousand. I’d have it compensated also with a optical site. My trigger would be sub 2 pounds, no take up, no creep. If your starting with a production gun accurails would be a must IMO, if looking to a SVI or the like you wont need em till the gun gets too loose. But you pay.

In both cases smithing is a key part, especially the feed ramp and whatnot. Even custom mags with custom tuned springs.

It’s really amazing to see a guy hit the A zone 24 times before the first shell hits the ground. Probably a lot has changed from when I shot. I shot a custom Oly arms match pistol. When I was shooting comp Travis Tomasie was just getting very competitive. We shot allot of matches together at Renton and Kitsap. He is now the US ARMY USPSA pistol team captain. Who would have thought. IPSC and USPSA are great ways to get really fast and accurate with a pistol.

Sorry for no pics J, but I sold my comp gun and went to rifles and revolvers. There are plenty of bad ass 1911’s on the net as you know.

Hope this helps a bit…P.S. Wades in Bellevue carries and builds some fine 1911’s from SVI and the like.

I'm into the originals/replicas myself, so no pics unless you really want to see my springer mil-spec, but if you want to meet some really good smiths and see their work join 1911forum.com

yeah but do they look cool on the outside?   :chuckle:
i agree with muleysniper...go buy a kimber custom shop gun or buy a "regular" kimber and send it to the custom shop and let them have their way with it..my stepdad did this with his, or lose the skirt and pick up a wilson combat rig and never look back with either choice.

Never met a Kimber, STI or Wilson that I dident love at first sight!  ;) Thing about that is... Its not like a woman who can look good but be a basket case on the inside. In high end 1911's the inside is as good as the outside or better.

Here's mine. It's just a pic from the website but it's exactly the same. Kimber CDP Pro.
