Cleaning surface rust
« on: July 16, 2019, 05:09:53 PM »
I have a remmington 870 that sat under the truck seat for a couple weeks. Trying to get the best cleaner or cleaners to get it all off and back to normal. I have always had issue with this gun getting surface rust quick. What cleaner do you guys recommend to get it off and what should I put on it after I get it off to keep it from getting rusty so quick? Thanks

As a rust preventative I use breakfree clp. Ive hunted all day in the pouring rain after putting a thin film of it on my rifle, and at the end of the day the film is still there. Haven’t had any rust at all since using it.

Do you guys think it will clean the little rust that's on there already with a little scrubing? Then when its gone put a light coating on

Good. Takes it off and won't scratch the metal.

Flitz works great, been using it for years. It's what Boeing used to burnish out blemishes in cargo liners in the old days.

I was having problems with an Anschütz that rusted easily until I started using Ballistol. Now I use it on all of my guns, gardening tools, etc.
