Hancock elk
« on: July 15, 2019, 06:58:40 AM »
Hey all, my buddy was lucky enough to draw the archery Hancock tag (Kapowsin). We've been in there scouting and also scouting online. Hoping you guys are willing to provide ideas on areas to check out up there, anywhere some decent bulls have been seen recently (or what you think may be good bulls when the velvet starts coming off). Just trying to get him the best opportunity for a really good bull given the lucky bast$%d drew this tag. TIA

He just needs to get in there; he'll have plenty of opportunities. :twocents:

It doesn’t take getting far into the back, some of the big bulls aren’t far from the main gates.  I’m not an expert on the elk in there but you will find them all over.  Hopefully you guys get some good intel.

Hes very lucky.. just have fun with it. Cover as much ground as you can pre season, shouldnt have a problem. Just be aware some of the smaller timber companies do not allow hunting (Manke timber co. etc..)

lucky is an understatement.  Im beyond jealous and both hate and love hancock at the same time.  You don't need to scout in there just drive the road and bugle. I had 15-20 go off in one canyon last year. They're extremely vocal in there.  Hope you get this hunt on film. If I want in there, I would imagine turning down several bulls each day until something 340+ came in range.  As long as they're rutting and vocal and you're wiling to chase them, it should be an incredible hunt

Please don't let him shoot anything less than a 330 6x6 stud. There are giants in there and it seems like I very rarely see people hold out. This is a hunt of a lifetime.

Good luck on your hunt and congrats on getting drawn.  My brother drew the muzzloader tag this year in there so hopefully there will be some nice elk taken out of there by you all who were lucky enough to draw the tag.

King creek gate. Park at any gate by the old washed out moose junction bridge. Some monsters. I pulled the eatonville tag few years ago. Passed on a few low 300s up on top of the 1000 system by the gate of kapowsin.

My buddies apple pile adjacent to Hancock has pulled all the monsters off the tree farm. Not all but some monsters.
