Archery Moose Down
In Idaho we have another moose hunter who drew a tag the first time he applied and he is bow hunting. They have been hunting the same drainage that I arrowed my moose in several years ago, while scouting the guides had found a good bull in the drainage a few days ago. On the first day of the hunt yesterday they saw two young bulls and called at two other bulls they didn't get to see. Today guide Tate called in a bull to 16 yards, Jack decided he wanted the young bull and sunk his arrow, they waited about 1.5 hours and went tracking, the bull had only gone about 230 yards and dropped. Tate called and said bring the horses, he would start piecing out the bull for packing. Josiah readied the horses and headed up to meet them, they will probably be late getting back, I don't have any photos to show yet but will add photos when I get them.

What a season so far. Lots of bulls called in. It's good to hear about everybody getting after it.

Utah Mule Deer
Our first mule deer hunt of the year is underway on our northern Utah ranch. Guide Russell and hunter Ronnie had seen about 70 deer including several bucks by noon yesterday, Ronnie said there was a good 4x4 but he was too far away. This morning they got on another good buck at closer range but Ronnie missed so they are still hunting. Hopefully they put the next good buck on the ground, my fingers are crossed!

Idaho Scouting
We are also scouting for deer and elk in Idaho, we've got some bulls and bucks spotted and hopefully can get hunters on them when rifle season opens, fingers on other hand crossed!

Unfortunately more misses, they even sighted the gun in and more misses! I advised to stalk in closer for easier shots, I think excitement must be playing a role in the misses? :dunno:

Russell took this video yesterday evening when they spotted the group of bucks at 675, then they stalked to within 185 yards for a shot, but the bucks caught a scent or heard them and started moving off and the hunter couldn't find them in his scope before they got out of sight. The hunter had to leave this morning and another hunter arrives at noon. Russell will be looking for one of these larger bucks or one of the bucks that was missed. Fingers crossed again for a successful hunt!

Randy and Russell met at noon. They got settled and headed out for an evening hunt. At 5pm Russell spotted a good buck from a mile or so, they stalked in and Randy shot the buck at 45 yards. Russell said this is a new buck, it isn't one he had seen before. Congrats to Randy for his dandy!

I'm always dismayed at the number of misses when you post these recaps.
