My favorite hunting partner
« on: August 03, 2019, 08:51:36 PM »
So on our elk scouting trip today me and my son Lyan stopped to shoot our bows.  He did great, he’s been shooting since Christmas and I’m thinking he will be at 40 lbs by September. Super excited to have him hunting with me this year. He has accompanied me since he was 5 but this year he’ll have tag. I told him that Deer, Elk, and other critters aren’t gonna stand out there broadside 20 yards, I moved to target and gave him some real world practice. — feeling excited in Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me

Good on you dad. I made the same investment when my son starting shooting a bow @ 4 yrs. old. Now he's 32 and along with being an accomplished hunter he's the best hunting partner that I've ever shared a day in the woods with.

Can't we all just get along?

Yep, I started him young as well. This is first "real" bow he had owned

You guys are awesome both my kids are getting bows for xmas this yr. (Boy 10, Girl 8) they are both very into all of our outdoor activities. My son is only with me half of the time with his mom otherwise. My daughter on the otherhand, diff moms obviously, lives for hunting, camping and just the woods in general. She has helped clean many fish, and a couple rabbit, and even one rattle snake. I actually only got into archery with my wife about a yr and a half ago and still decided to go modern this yr due to just didnt quite feel confident enough especially my wife. But hey i enjoy hunting in any form. Grew up powder burnin its what i know. Next yr though her and i will be goin archery for sure. And then just a couple/few years before the youngins get to go and i cant wait. Neither can they. My daughter has come to camp and accompanied us the last 2 yrs granted we didnt drop any big game either yr :/.. Happens. Keep traditions goin folks its why you find me in the woods so much. Good luck out there.

That awesome. Bringing young shooters along is rewarding. I just started mentoring a neighbor's boy two weeks ago and he shot his first two bullseyes at 10 yards yesterday. He was off the wall! Keep up the awesome parenting!
