Tritronics to Garmin Switch?
« on: August 06, 2019, 09:05:13 AM »
Hello,

Picked up a new GSP pup in May and have been thinking about what e-collar to buy. We have always ran the old Tri-tronics with our other shorthairs, but it seems those have become obsolete. I am looking at these Garmin ones and reading reviews. I was hoping for some feedback. I dont use a point sounder and dont think I will need a GPS function. Im not trying to spend more on a collar than I did on the dog. I have been leaning toward the Pro550 or the Pro70. Have used the DeltaXC but found it worthless.

Any feedback would be appreciated.
This is Bruno.

I run a Pro 550 and a Astro 330. Having GPS on my dogs has made the hunt far more relaxing and effective IMO.

The new Garmin 550 has been flawless. We have flyways, 70's and a Dogtra. The Dogtra is the only one that doesn't get used. One thing that is really crappy about the Garmin 550 is they use a thin flimsy little strap that falls apart about every 4 months. It is a terrible design flaw they haven't changed amid all the complaints. Big company issue.

If you don't mind tracking your dog on your phone and having the e-collar controls there the Dogtra Pathfinder is great.

If you want to keep it simple buy the Garmin Pro 550 Plus. You'll get everything you need right down to very basic tracking.

Otherwise get the Alpha.
