Got ahold of the guy, met up with him, and we’re good to go. We’re gonna move forward on cordial terms, with the understanding that this won’t happen again.

Don't know them. I'd bet they never saw your camera the first time and when they came back finally noticed it.  They then thought you set up on top of them and did that stuff to retaliate. :dunno:

They certainly could have missed the cam originally; but don’t believe for a second that they thought the brush cleared itself and the white rock salt (they were looking at and standing in) magically appeared. It was pretty obvious that somebody had recently put in some work at that spot. So they got pissed that a potential third party had tried to set up on them after they set up on somebody else? Certainly possible. Honestly not too many thing shock me any more. My theory is they are just A holes.

First class a**holes! Even though they did not steal your camera, what they did to that tree constitutes a crime and they definitely deserve to be prosecuted after what they did. Good grief did they take turns gnawing on that tree?

A striker fired pistol without a proper holster? Stupid. With safety practices like theirs there is a good chance your  hunting situation might be a self-correcting issue. Might accidentally shoot the guy with the holster then accidentally shot her self. Perfect picture of how not to secure a striker fired weapon.
There are only so many sunrises left.

Never seen something so unsportsmanlike.  Bad KARMA for them.

Isn't it illegal to do your own clearing in national forest land?

Clearing out an area to put salt on an alder choked out skid rd constitutes "clearing" on NF land?

Hope those two missed a corner on their way off the mtn that day and are never seen again.

Technically, putting a salt block out is illegal too.

I guess that falls into a LEO definition of clearing. Is it illegal to clear brush around a downed elk to make room to process it? Cut a few limbs to hang some quarters or treestand? Or cleared shooting lanes? Brushed up a blind? Cut some brush to setup a tent? I don’t imagine there are many who haven’t done some or most of these. I guess it depends on how absurd a persons definition of clearing is...
