My first bear!
«
on:
August 18, 2019, 02:05:52 PM »
Filled my first bear tag this morning. I picked out a ridge on Onx maps that I wanted to work and hit the mountain just after sunrise. After my first calling setup resulted in nothing, I worked my way further op the mountain and found a nice open area to set up for my second attempt of the day. After checking the wind, I began to get situated. Just as I went to start calling, I looked out into the opening and saw a flash of black fur cruising the ridgeline in front of me. I could see he was headed in my direction so I put the call down and got ready for a shot. As soon as he paused in one of my shooting lanes, I dropped him dead in his tracks with one shot from my 7mm. He's not a huge bear, but I couldn't be happier. What a great start to the year.

Thanks everyone. I had a great hunt. This one breaks a string of a couple years without filling any tags for me. Hoping it's a sign that the rest of the year is going to be good. I'll be looking for my first elk this year and trying to get it done with a stickbow. Should be fun. I'll probably be focused on helping my buddy get his first bear (first big game animal of any soecies) between now and then but I'll definitely be picking up that 2nd bear tag as well. Crazy things happen in the woods sometimes so I'll be prepared for anything.
