Favorite cable lock?
« on: October 18, 2019, 11:11:07 AM »
Hey folks,

I set some cameras out with my buddy about a month ago, and wasn't able to go with him to pick up the footage.  I gave him the keys for my python cables, but he wasn't able to get the locks open.  They've been a little finicky lately so I figure they rusted/seized/something.  Anyway, I asked him how he got them off the trees and he said, "Um...  I shot them."

I really wish someone had come up on him doing that and seen him try to defend his actions  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:.

Anyway I need a couple more lock cables now, and I'm wondering if there are any other options besides the common python cables?

What are you guys using?

Some of the better shots from the cameras (that same bear knocked the camera sizeways on day 2 ):

Don't know of any other maker.  :dunno:
I've only ever had 1 issue with a cable lock out of 15 that I have been using for 5+ years. No rust, and always work.

The one issue was my fault for not noticing the tree was dripping a lot of sap from above, totally gummed up the lock head, then I broke the key off in it trying to unlock. Took a fair amount of work with what the forest provided to get the lock open.

Honestly, I’ve never used any kind of boxes or locks. But then again, I don’t put cams out where people go in 90% of situations. Just take 3 tree steps and put em up high.
