Have done several...both single season and multiple season slams.  Just a tip.....on a single season slam, your odds go way up if you can get your eastern out of the way first, while most of the opening week or so of the season still has those Merriams and Rios henned up or snowed in...lol.
It's hard whichever way you approach it, but having that Eastern down gives you alot more confidence.  Good luck!

The slam is too easy..I have done the Door Slam several years in a row now....The beer slam has also been done for several years now too...I think this year I am after the Denny's Grand Slam..that is more my speed.  I did get the Wa Slam in 1998 but I need to get over there and chase some easterns....There a Denny's in Chehalis?  LOL.. :chuckle:
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!

And after the Denny's Slam, you can compete and probably win the farting competition (lol) ... of course there is the danger of a groin hernia.

Yeah, I'm still missing the Eastern.  Haven't really had time to try for one.  Not sure I could sell that trip to the wife..

Sell it to her by saying "Dear, I love you so much I'm gonna go out and get you the best and most expensive turkey meat on the planet ... although I don't wanna, I'm willing to make that sacrifice for you and the kids!"    :IBCOOL:

Tried that will "most expensive steak dinner" for elk season, and "most expensive tenderloin" for deer.  Don't think it's gonna work again.  Once the youngest gets old enough to take him with me, I'll use the "gettin' the boys out of your hair for the weekend".  I wonder how many times that is going to work...

Well then, how bout telling her " You know dear, I will be taking the boys out for these Easterns before you know it. Been thinking maybe I should find out I good spot with some birds where we can spend some quality time alone away from the other hunters. And I wanna be sure I know how to hunt them so they have lots of fun while I'm spending qulaity time with them, instead of all us getting totally frustrated and coming home with nothing when we do finally go!"

Agree with Dancer.
Playing to the kids will usually work for awhile.  You know, you buy some new camo for the son or daughter and ...of course for yourself.  Kind of like....one for you, one for me, one for you, two for me...   :whoo:  lol.
It takes awhile before the better half catches up to this shell game.  I think it's the maternal warm feeling they get watching your parental sensitivity coming out .....lol.
Put everything into the child tense....and avoid even mentioning your getting any hunting satisfaction out of it at all.
This technique tends to work well with both sexes, although with daughters it's the cat's meow!!!

No daughters (yet).  And the youngest one is not even two yet, so I can't pull this one off for a couple of years.  Now when the older one and I take off it is judged as "getting you and him out of the house and leaving me with the baby"...

She's actually a pretty smart gal... :bash:

Maybe I can affix a diaphram call to the roof of his mouth, so when he sarts chattering in the blind it will all come out as clucks and purrs...
Started taking my other boy out with me grouse hunting when he was 3, but that didn't involve him sitting quietly for hours in a blind in the rain, hunting for a bird that leaves the state if you blink too loudly...

It don't work for long though...better do the most expensive stuff right off until she's on to it...which in my case was about the time she learned my last name :o

As for the slam I going to hit it hard this year, going after Easterns the first couple weekends mostly due to snow and that work is slowing down so are my turkey funds :'( Got a trip to the SE plannd for early May then round out looking for Merriams in the Central Wa area. Even going to try it archery style.....but will have access to a shotgun very close by ;)
