over under recomendations
« on: August 20, 2019, 04:20:10 PM »
id like to get a over under. what's every ones choices? I know its all about how they feel in the store and all that but I was just curious as to what every one is using? I've been looking hard at the cz upland sterling or the Franchi instinct.

Sorry, but CZ’s are Turkish garbage.  Get a used Miroku based gun for the same price. Miroku’s are 10x the quality of a CZ.  What guage and barrel length do you want?

1) Jet Jockey is 150% correct
2) Barrel length is a personal thing.  In general shorter barrel swing fast.
3) What is your intended use?  Just birds a few times a year or shooting Sporting, skeet or trap.  All require different guns

I shoot competitive trap all over the place, and practice 2-3 times a week totaling about 15k rounds of 12ga a year.

All my friends are shotgunners, and a real shotgun is truly a very personal thing.  Fit is really the only thing that matters.   Once you mount one that is right, you will know.  It is like looking for a girl friend.  You will handle some turds until you find the right one.

As Jockey stated stay FAR away from and Turkish gun...it will not hold up, and there is zero resale..zero.  I own several Miroku built Browning.

The 828 is not getting good press as it is too light for heavy shooting volume and the safety is automatic everytime the gun closes.

Honestly and Beretta or Browning is a working mans o/u and don't cost much more than the Turkish garbage.

https://www.joeletchenguns.com/new-guns/browning/citori-cx

This gun listing is way high.  There are used one on gunbroker for 1100ish

My Teenager kid used to shoot this gun for 4H.  They were required to shoot trap, sporting and skeet. He also hunted upland with it.  He put 12000 down it in the course of 3 years, zero issues.  Only reason we got rid of it is upgraded and we used it as a trade in.  I believe it was $1299.99 at Cabelas during the summer of 2015.

Neat thing about these is they shoot 60/40 and are 3" chambered.  They come with several chokes for different uses

Once you get to the Browning/Beretta/Benneli point it really is about fit. Look up http://www.fieldsportltd.com this guy offers a fit program in person but also has tips on how a gun should fit. It made me realize that the Browning o/u fit better than the beretta or benelli. However the benelli semi auto fit better than other brands. Don’t get caught up on brand loyalty but what fits best.

As a side note I have a family member who could buy any shotgun in the world but he hunts with the Franci instinct for the last 15 years and loves it.

On barrels. For hunting I like 28” for clays I like 30”. If I had to choose one for all applications I would go 28” for the times you are hunting trees or cattails.

Another vote for Miroku! I have a Miroku made Browning that I adore. I need to find a matching one in 20ga.

I've hunted a Ruger red label, first a 20 gauge that the thieves needed worse than me, then a 12 ga. I've had fair luck, shot a bunch, missed a bunch.
