Definitely the Prettist Turkey Call I Now Have
« on: April 01, 2009, 05:08:49 PM »
Just made the purchase last night.  Got it from the same callmaker that I recently purchased a slate call and a couple tube calls.  This is one he had built for himself from a piece of Desert Ironwood Burl he got last year.  It's initial trial run was a week ago in the Florida swamps on Osceolas.  It will be shipped with another call this coming Monday or Tuesday as it's hitting the swamp again this weekend.
First time out.......in the makers own words....

"It sounds really good and will be the death to a lot of Gobblers. Just clucking with it brought in three different Turkeys this past weekend!"

I really appreciated the fact that he was willing to let it go as it was in his words ..." That is a very special piece of wood!"

Anyway, thought you might enjoy seeing something really different in a friction call.....oh and it's crystal over glass in a combination that the callmaker feels he has really perfected.  God I feel sorry for those gobblers this spring! :hunter:

And Yelp....before you ask....no you cannot lay your poo hands on it....lol

Here's the other one that is coming with it......my son's.  Also crystal over glass in Waterfall Bubinga....another pretty exotic wood.

Not slate...it's crystal over a glass sounding board.

Sounds like a good trade.  Make sure you post some photos when you get it.  Was that crow call for Tim actually made out of wood from an orange tree?  Any pictures?  Sounds pretty....

Oops....almost forgot the call that ending up being the reason for me getting the two I posted above.  Was going to get a copper call before on the previous order but decided to wait.  Then decided I wanted to try one this season so ordered it and ended up getting the other two.  Good sound economic approach...huh?

Copper over slate.....made with Madagascar Ebony.  Really, really pretty.

No I have not....in fact, I don't make calls, I just buy them....lol.  Wish I had the urge as it looks pretty rewarding.  The trick is not how they look, but how they sound.  There a tons of nice looking, even beautiful calls out there that sound like crap.

Bone...sorry, to answer your question more completely.....it's a pot call showing pictures of the bottom with sounding holes and sides.  Did not have a picture of the top, which in this case is crystal over a glass sounding board.  However,it could be any surface such as a piece of slate over slate, glass over slate, etc.  Hope that clears it up..... :)

Rick...thanks for posting.  How does it look finished....real light looking like in the photo...and how did the crow call turn out that you made for Tim?  Is that piece big enough for a crow call?
