Vashon island hunting
« on: August 22, 2019, 06:18:43 PM »
Got drawn for a second deer tag on Vashon island. Was wondering if anybody knows anything about the private land ??  Or where you can public hunt? any information would be appreciated !

There are a few threads here...use the search tool for that. Overall my understanding is very tough if you don't already have access. People seevthem as pets.

Pretty much all private access so you need to know someone willing to let you in. Some people are just ok with having hunters there but they dont want you to shoot "their deer". They see them as a nuisance but dont want them harvested.

I was at a function about a week ago and there was a couple from Vashon. He hated the deer, talked about the damage etc.  I mentioned I know some people who have wanted to hunt it and his reply was "good luck".

You don't need a tag, just drive around for a day and either you will hit one or the car in front or the car behind you and then you can load it up and salvage tag it.

:yeah: Just think, if you had spent the cost of your license and tag on a crummy craigslist pickup truck and the cost of a ferry ticket you could have two or three salvage doe in your freezer already. Economics 101.

Start knocking on doors or asking around on Facebook.  And just remember that most of the properties are less than a couple acres.  You may shoot a deer on one and find it 3 properties over if things don’t go just right.

It’s a tough area to hunt because 70% of the people you run into will hate you.

That being said, it’s not impossible.  I’ve taken a deer off Vashon every year I’ve tried.  It just takes work.

You are asking owners if you can kill their tame and pet deer. Good luck with that. You might as well go to Woodland Park.

Vashon has a deer hunting season open to firearms in October that is open for everyone. It’s in a park that will be closed to all other use during that time.

“Vashon deer hunting” is what you should  ask the google.

Have you seen if they are doing that again this year? I haven’t seen a notice put out.
