Magnification advice needed
« on: November 30, 2019, 08:36:37 AM »
I have been eyeballing a Vortex Viper 4-16x44 scope for a while now and was going to go pick it up, when I came across the Viper 6-24x50 on sale for less than the 4-16.

I want a little bit of versatility to go back and forth between West/East Washington hunting, and I'm afraid the 6-24 is going to be too much and get in the way.

All other things being equal, which would you go for?

I wouldn’t go up to 6x, you won’t like it inside of 100 yards. Frankly 4x is too much for the west side.

Of the two I would 4x more than 24x.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

4x and the reason is for use at first light, fading light, and close shots.

 :yeah:

4-16 would definitely be the way to go, the 6-24 is only needed for longer ranges which you are unlikely to need West or East. I’ll shoot coyotes and prairie dogs all day past 400 yards with no more than 16x.

The clarity on most scopes at 24x sucks anyway..

4-16 all day long for hunting.
