Need to find a thumb release...

Well long story short, I have a hoyt defiant thats minimum DL is about 3/4 of an inch too long. Long enough to ruin my form and create insane target panic. Not yet ready to admit defeat, Im thinking MAYBE if i swap from a wrist style release to a grip that it technically in theory.... Might give me that extra 3/4 of an inch without getting new limbs and cams. Only FORSURE option is to shoot without a D loop and that doesnt seem realistic to me. Also been sitting on a broken hand for over 6 months with surgery dates pending. So I cant really have the strap from the wrist release putting pressure on my hand. I can grip no problem as long as I keep my splint on.



Anyways.. im trying to see if anyone local, yelm/eatonville/roy or anywhere semi close has one of those carters or a Thumb/back tension style release I can try out for a few days before I make a final decision.
Been getting my life back in order and Im spending more time on the water and at the range.

Good luck in your search. I definitely shot better when I switched to the Scott Little Goose. Not a thumb release but same idea, it shortened the distance from wrist to string

Yeah thats what Im trying to accomplish, Even if I have to learn how to shoot completely over... Its better then spending the amount on a new bow, on just new limbs and cams.

I use a Spot Hogg Whipper Snapper. Good release but it took me months to relearn my release technique.

Ill sell you my spot hog whipper snapper half of what it retails for.  Bought it last year and took alot of blank bale shooting with eyes closed to get used to.  It made me more accurate.  pm if  interested.

i use a scott sigma. works great for me. feel a lot more stable

I have a Trufire Hardcore 4 I am partial to. I don’t stand hunt and prefer not to have a release connected to me and I removed th little spring steel keeper so I just have the hook release. I lost 1/2” of draw length going this route over my original wrist finger release which sounds about what you are looking for as was I.

Stopped shooting for so long my form kind of withered away.
Made picking up the new bow alittle easier with lack of muscle memory. I was almost able to reseat my anchor and start shooting it naturally with little to no problens. Its alittle long and If target panic kicks in it can be a real mess with overdraw. Luckily I dont plan hunting with it anymore.
