Couldn’t resist hitting the sound with the weather yesterday, even with the high tide. It was a long and very slow day, we put in at GG before sunrise and trailered the boat at 6PM. We hit all of our usual what have been hotspot to not get a bite, not even that many fish on the sonar, a blip here and there, where did they all go?I got out the binos and started to look for other fishing boats. We saw about 10 or so boats stacked up by discovery so I motored down that way, not really sure why they were there? A few fish on the sonar but nothing to get excited about, again no bites. We pulled our lines and headed up by the oil docks, lots of boats. We found a few schools on the sonar and dropped our lines and started the troll. After a few we get a small bite on one of the deep six rods, first fish is a shaker. After a while we pull our lines and head over to Kingston for a quick bite to eat. We decided to hit Jeff’s head on the way back, fish were all over the sonar but nothings biting, we make a few passes and finally pop goes the downrigger that my uncle was fishing, fish in the boat, we probably would’ve let this one go (basically the size of a big kok) but it was hooked hard and bleeding good and didn’t want to waste a fish, card punched! Started to troll again for about 20 mins with nothing, we trolled through some slop and lines needed to be cleaned. My dad pops his line from the downrigger and starts to reel in and bam, good fish on. He gets the fish to about 8’ from the boat and in the excitement he lets the flasher(had seaweeds all over it) pop out of the water and the fish spits the hook. Talk about a let down, over 10hrs of fishing to loose the only good fish of the day so far. We’re about mid channel between Jeff’s head and GG trolling towards the dock, the green can outside of GG is in site and then my rod starts to do the dance I like to see, fish on, I took extra care to keep the tip down and the flasher in the water like many on here suggested, I forgot my salmon net at home so all we had was a trout net, we played with that fish for 5 mins or so trying to net it. Finally in the net it goes and my pops slings the netted fish in to the boat! Never thought one fish could create so much excitement, high fives, hugs and whooping and hollering ensued! Love sharing these moments with my pops. We fished for another 45 mins with no luck but we didn’t care, we had beaten the fish!!
