Does Sight Pin Size Make A Difference?

I’ve learned that some sights have smaller diameter pins and I’ve been considering looking into this for this reason.

In some lighting situations my pins burst and it makes seeing between pins for odd distance shots more difficult than it should be.

Do smaller pins help to counter the busting?

It definitely can make a difference.  What sight do you have?  Sometimes you can cove up your fiber optic wrap with a rubber band to help.

I have larger pins for my 20&30 yard pins, smaller pins for 40,50,60 and really small for 70&80.

Yes... I also think like this...aim small miss small. Big pin covers more of your target so how precise can you aim. Balance between pin size, what works etc is key imo.

Depending on the distance of the pin from your eye it can make a huge difference. For example someone with a short 26” draw would want a really small pin or it might be covering to much of the target to be accurate. Longer draws may like a larger pin for visibility and it’s sticking out another 4” away from your eye compared to the previous example.

Small pins are great when your eyesight is perfect.  If so, they slightly increase pin gap but not enough to eliminate burst.  Now, small pins and a dove tail mount and long slider can increase pin gap the farther out it is set and further help with burst.......if possible, may be best to just cover the wraps if your sight is so equiped.

The older you get the more it matters. I ended up going with a single pin sight which has worked out great for me. If you start having a harder time seeing your pins, make a change.

I saw on the Outdoor channel Randy Newberg showing peeps that have magnification lenses in them.  He said it is perfect for us older people .  Wonder if that is legal?  I think it would be.  He said it is like wearing reading glasses making the pins show up really clear but also didn't blur out the game.  I don't  remember the name of the peeps.

shot .19's for ever. set up a new bow a few years back and thought "those .10 will be way better for sight picture" had them on one season and went back. really hard to see in low light. for me anyway

Black Gold Accent Verdict sight is your answer. They use a PhotoChromatic shell that changes the brightness of the pins to match the lighting conditions. I use a 3 pin slider with .019 pins and couldn't be happier with it.
